Too busy at my new job to use the new beast I;m afraid,. I hope to get some shooting in before Christmas!

Canon "Customer relations"is trying my patience.
Another week gone by, and still no sign of and no word re: my own 100-400mm zoom lens.
I have made two calls to my customer service rep with no reply, so tonight I called 1-800 OK Canon and spoke with none other than Eric, Canon's "Senior Shooter" again. He was very pleasant and promised to go far out of his way to try and find the missing lens.

Gosh, Jake, I'm doing a lot better than you. I've had my 100-400 into Canon twice while you've been waiting for yours. The first time it came back, it was still giving fuzzy images, so I took it back in last week. I just got a call that it was ready for pickup again. I'll drive down tomorrow, but this time I'll take the laptop so I can check the IQ before leaving Irvine.

Maybe they liked it so much they wanted to buy it back from you. ;) Send them an invoice for the full retail price of the 100-400. :D

Seriously though, I've only had to deal with Canon Customer Service once, for my 70-300IS pre-recall. While I got a better resolution to the problem than I could have imagined (they replaced my original lens with one of the very first re-engineered models made), their communication throughout the whole affair was poor to borderline at best. I wasn't even asking difficult or unreasonable questions (like can I have my lens back ;) ), and still got the impression that pulling teeth would be easier than getting an answer out of anybody there.

Communication seems to be their weak point. After the first time I took the 100-400 in, I asked what they had done when they called to say it was ready. They only would tell me they adjusted the autofocus mechanism. It was fixed. I asked again today when they called, and they told me the same thing. That's the main reason I'm going to take the laptop, and not leave their parking lot until I know it's working properly. Those trips to Irvine are getting expensive, even if the price of gas is dropping.

There's nothing wrong with saying that if true.

Mine works, too (I think).

You want to live in the UK! Your US gallon of fuel costs us Brits the equivilent of about $10. When we hear that oil has dropped below the $100 a barrel mark, we still wonder why we are paying $420 for it.

Good luck with your kit.
