Does it matter how many dots you have?

As long at it works, that is what counts.....well for me anyway.

I can understand the frustration of some having to wait to get theirs back (especially as I got mine back in 5 days )

But trying to find out what the dots mean is a bit anorakinsh..get out there and enjoy a great camera...

It's more curiosity than anything, to try and find out if the different amount of dots mean different degrees of repair... I'm one of those that said they hadn't come across any problems with my MkIII before it was sent in, and I seem to be one of the few with 2 dots...

An enquiring mind is a healthy mind... ;)

Agreed, but an obsessed one leads to paranoia...

for the record, mine has two and before the fix didnt really have the problems others have been having....

Well I just received my MKIII back today after sending it in over a month ago. It made the trip to VA and then to NJ for some power problem they said. (Which it did not have prior to sending it in) Now I got it back, took it out tonight for a test drive. I now have the following problems and issues.

1) It will not format the CF cards. It will format the SD card but not the CF. I tried several cards and turned the power off and back on several times. And still the same error. I Removed the battery and re installed. Cleared all the custom settings. Etc. Nothing. I checked the same cards in my MKIIn and not problem.
2) It also will not boot up fast. It takes a few seconds after turning on the power before I can do anything.
3) After turning on the camera, I can not activate the menu for several seconds.
4) The focus seems slow and not very responsive.
5) None of my custom functions were changed when I got the camera back
6) My return slip said nothing about a sub mirror fix only an AF adjustment and returned back to factory standards.
7) I do have a white dot on the inside of the battery compartment.
8 Prior to sending it in, I had sent it in two other times to get the focus issue looked at only to be told that is was returned to factory settings and cleaned.
9) I had already updated the firmware to ver 1.3 prior to sending it in and on the return paper work it said that they loaded the most recent version but it was already installed prior to sending it in.
10) I have a big shoot this weekend and needed this camera but now I will not use it because it is still CRAP . Even worse then when I sent it in.

I am so sick of Canon and the run around that this camera has given me that I am about to spend more money then the camera is worth just to hire an attorney and file a lawsuit. This camera has cost me lots of lost time, jobs and a big headache. Never again will I purchase a new untested product from Canon. And yes I tried to return it to my dealer two weeks after I purchased it only to be told that it was a Canon problem not theirs.

Well, it looks like there seems to be a fairly mixed bag round here...

Don't ask me whether it's a sign of quality or not; i sent in my Mk3 yesterday (Friday) lunchtime; and by 10am today, I received an SMS telling me my camera is ready for collection...

Has me kind of worried actually the fact that they managed to turn it around so fast (especially when I read the inordinate lengths of time some ppl here are waiting). Was thinking that they might not have changed any of the sub-mirror components - but my body (505XXX) is definitely in the 'affected' ranged + has already gone back prior for an AF adjustment.

Proof will be in the pudding I guess. Will have to wait another 1.5 days till I find out whether things have improved or not; but I'll be there to collect my baby first thing Monday!

BTW, I'm in Singapore; so maybe Canon over here doesn't get as high a volume as some of you N. American/European countries...

Just a thought (yes I know you should not have to) have you tried re-installing the firmware??? It may be corrupt ??

Otherwise a trip to Canon to shove it where the sun don't shine....

Seems strange they do the work but don't test it before sending it back to you.... as I said before (another post) the repair is only as good as the person that does it.... Canon obviously employ some Donkey's...

Hope you get it sorted :)

All the best

My jury's still going to be out till I get my Mk3 back in my hands, but the 24hr turnaround seems mightily impressive. I'm still worried about the feedback from people like rrpruett with his body coming back with even more problems... Not a good sign indeed...

Slightly OT, but I bought mine from Cathay Photos (http://www.cathayphoto.com.sg (external link))... They're one of the larger names here in Singapore. Either that or you can also visit a local photo board (http://www.clubsnap.org/ (external link)) that will have plenty of people to point you in the right direction too!

Hope you enjoy your stay in Singapore!

that sucks but i'd contact Canon and demand a replacement before going down the legal route unless on a no win no fee basis.

I wouldn't worry about the fast turnaround. I think its because of marketsize. I handdelivered mine at 9 am in the morning and got a call at 1 pm that it was ready for pickup so thats 4 hours. Also I am sure it depends on the severity of the fix on the individual bodies. I heard that some bodies in Denmark needed to be sent to the Scandinavian servicecenter located in Sweden in which case obviously it would take longer.

Just sent mine in yesterday.

Canon has yet to give me a repair number, now I call and talk to them daily, make them call the repair center and check on the status of my camera. On lady I spoke with told me "sir I am sure nothing has changed with the status" I told her if they would give me a repair number I wouldnt have to call them daily to check on the status.

Yeah... I think what's even more worrying now is what cyrn reported (http://forums.clubsnap.org/showpost....15&postcount=1 (external link)). It seems that over here apparently they AREN'T changing the sub-mirror assembly; merely electronically adjusting it... Which makes me even more concerned - i mean, shouldn't there be at least SOME standardisation between all the markets. If there's a global recall involved, I would have at least thought that there'd be one common action for a defective part and not based on geographic location.

I'm just worried since my Mk3 had already been back before due for an AF adjustment (prior to sub-mirror fix being announced) - I hope this isn't just another dead-duck fix.

One thing's for sure, 2nd-hand buyers of Mk3 bodies better beware.... Which is a sad indictment on the way the whole matter's been handled.

This is what it sounds like they did to mine. No replacement only adjustment.
you woudl have thought that after a month in the shop they could have fixed it correctly.

each camera clearly needs different repair...mine also seems to have been fixed not replaced....i also have one white dot in my battery compartment...why do people care how their camera is repaired as long as it is repaired properly and it works the way it is supposed to
