I sent my camera in on Thursday and the online repair summary says the repair is complete. Before sending it in I wrote a detailed description on the repair form of the fatal Err99 I experienced in Alaska. I was told by a rep that a separate repair like that wouldn't be done at the same facility and it could significantly delay the entire process. Fine with me since I just want the thing FIXED. Anyway, the online status says it's complete and will be returned to me in 4 business days. That made me wonder if they fixed the Err99 so I just called in and talked with someone (at the repair facility I think) and they say the Err99 problem was also fixed. I really hope so! I wonder why they were able to do it at the same facility and so quickly.

Got mine back on Friday -- and they even cleaned the sensor for me (had spot that wouldn't go away with the in-camera sensor cleaning.)

Liz,

I sent mine in with Err99 also but it wasn't all repaired at the VA facility. Instead they shipped it to New Jersey to complete the repairs that caused the Err99 problem. I'm sure looking forward to getting it back!

Take care,
Harry

Received my camera from Canon repair this morning. :D Couple of observations:

1. It was very well packed. Plastic sleeve for the camera. Heavy duty bubble wrap around that, and peanuts on all side of the camera.
2. There are two white dots inside the battery compartment. At this point I've forgotten what the second white dot indicates.
3. I did receive the extended warranty.
4. The repair ticket states, "We have examined the product according to your request, and the AI servo function did not operate properly from time to time. The AF assembly was re-worked. Other electrical adjustments and inspection and cleaning were carried out."
5. The firmware "upgrade" was 1.1.3
6. My custom settings were set to default.
**7. Now, the strangest thing...I was expecting my camera to be shipped from NJ, since that is where I believed it to be. However, it was shipped from Irvine, CA. So at some point, my camera went from NJ to CA to be fixed.
Canon received camera on 12/17, sent to NJ on/around 12/17, then sent to CA (date unknown), then shipped to me via FedEx overnight on 1/15.*

Haven't had a chance to test anything yet, but will report back if anything negative occurs.

Got mine back today.
It has 1 white dot in the battery compartment.
On the repair sheet it said spares : stopper, sub mirror assembly.
Does that mean my camera had the lot replaced? rather than just an adjustment.

Mine made it back yesterday and was pretty much the same except I knew it was in California and my custom settings were unchanged. I also got the two dots. I have no clue what that means though. About the only other difference is mine was shipped on the 17th and they had it in VA in the 19th. Then to NJ on the 27th. Only reason I knew it was in California was because I called them everyday.

It is curious as to why my camera has seen more of this country than I have.

apparently because new jersey is swamped...that would be my guess. it would take less time to overnight it to ca and work on it there.

i got mine back from ca too. 1 dot though. kinda disappointed no memory card. but oh well.

If you have read any of my past mails you will have realised that I am very new to the technologies of photography. I am at that point where I am sapping up all the knowledge I can.

I am lucky enough to be able to have purchased the Mark III. My machine has been sent away for the Canon repair and returned 'repaired'.

My question is, are all you other guys able to hand hold your Mark III's and produce a sharp image? I am not able to do this and need to know if it is me or my machine at fault.

Sorry if this is in the wrong section but thought that it fitted here as I am trying to determine if it is me or the machine at fault.

Would appreciate your thoughts .

I must add that my machine is constantly searching when i put the lens onto auto.

There are way too many variables to know whether you're having a problem or not, but if you shooting handheld, your shutter speed should be at least 1 over the focal length. (i.e. 100 mm lens should be at least 1/100 second) Faster is better as far as getting sharp images goes.

If you're shooting in decent light, and your lens is 'hunting,' that's not a good thing. You could be having a problem with either the lens, the body, or (heaven forbid) both.

I'm not short. I'm concentrated awesome!

sent camera tues morning and received e mail today that repair has been done - suprisingly fast turnaround. I doubt it was even on their premises more than 12 hours.

Package currently in Watford depot and despite a missort at 6pm is on schedule to arrive tomorrow (of course i'll be at work so will be out of luck).

Well, Chief, you have given me an immediate 'good' result. Thank you!

I was shooting indoors, tungsten, this evening at 0"4. After your advice I shot at vast improvement and a better sharpness at 1/80. (24-70mm 1:2.8 L USM) As I am shooting without a flash the image is slightly darker than ideal. Dont forget I have only one working arm at the moment and am resting the lens on my plaster cast on the broken arm.

I will follow this guide tomorrow in daylight with interest.

1. Normal
2. I don't think anyone really knows that they mean. I only got one.
3. So has everyone else
4. That's a little different
5. Standard whether it was previously installed or not
6. Normal
7. Yup. Odd.

Why not report if something positive occurs? We need more positive energy on this forum. For the last year it's been a real downer here...Post some killer photos.

Well, mine is off to the mother-ship. I'm hoping it's quicker than what I'm reading here. It was working pretty good so other than the mirror fix it should be easy, unless they break it..:( I'll keep everyone up to date when it come back home.:D
