I just received my camera. On the repair form it says "AF mechanism adjustment, update firmware." It doesn't say anything addressing the catastrophic Err99 problem that I experienced in Alaska. I just called the service center and the rep said that they fixed the camera, so it must have been a software problem. I asked how could software progressively get worse over time and result in an error like that. He didn't really have an answer (said something like data fragmentation which makes no sense) but said if I have the problem again they'll take care of it. I'm glad to have the camera back, but I BETTER not have that problem again!!

If I remember correctly, that's what mine said...I'm wondering if they just have a standard repair lingo that they write down when they are done

Yeah, but the reason I'm not trusting the Err99 fix is that it only took a week to get back. When I called in they said the center fixing the auto focus couldn't fix other problems like Err99 so it would be sent somewhere else for that and take longer. Since it wasn't sent anywhere else, I'm skeptical.

I too called in on the 2nd and got the call back yesterday and shipped it to VA late yesterday, but I think the guy I talked to said it would take about 7 days. Who knows???

I was getting a err99 message roughly every 300-400 shots, I would have to change out to a fresh battery to keep shooting. (battery wouldnt even be at 75% charge when the error would happen).

What kind of Err99 problem did you have? Mine got worse and worse until the camera finally died on me in Alaska. Since I've been back I haven't seen the problem.

Well I just received my camera back after being gone for almost a month. I noted that the battery compartment had a single white dot inside.

The repair order didn't mention my Err99 problem specifically but instead stated something like "the camera was repaired and adjusted to factory specs".

Tonight I'll take my 1D Mark III to the basketball game to give it a tryout but I'll also be taking my trusty 30D just in case.

Wish me luck.

Sent 1/10, at Canon 1/14, Fixed 1/16 & Shipped to be back by 1/18. All repair done in Virginia. After reading other experiences here I am in shock, but will wait by the door all day Friday. Will look for a duck Saturday to post a picture.....

Just got it back at 10:30 AM on 1/18. "AF mirror mechanism adjustment, update firmware." 8 Days...I am lucky. Duck picture soon....
PS - One white dot inside.

Update - not had time to look at the camera till today but here are my observations.

- The camera was returned in a box with plenty of protection
- Sensor was cleaned, I suspect my when I sent it in it may have had a few dust bunnies
- Shooting swans and ducks today and I noticed no no decrease in performance in either one-shot or AI servo (they were hardly moving though)
- Not had any err99 appear which is good as I didn't come across this problem before.

I'm reserving judgment on the AI-servo hardware fix as firmware 1.1.3 seemed to do the trick for me before I sent it in. Off to the zoo this weekend so hopefully I'll have a chance to photograph some faster subjects.

Still loving my camera!

If you go a few pages back, there are some contact numbers you can ring to arrange. I waited a few weeks and didn't hear anything, then someone gave me the elstree number and they booked ups to pick up the camera at my convenience.

edit - 08705 143 723 press option 1. Then option 3.

you will just be told where you are on the waiting list - they can repair 10 a day and had about 5000 to do when I spoke to them in December. Don't worry when your turn comes they are very quick, mine was sent Tues and returned Thurs.

Our cameras might share a flight to VA then, I didn't get it out until today!! I think UPS usually heads to Warwick from Swansea! Here's to a safe flight! :)
