I received my shipping labels on Fri, 11th in the late evening. The camera was dropped off on Sun, 13th and today I received the fixed body with a one year warranty extension certificate. Quick turnaround and good service, kudos to Canon.

Two bodies left, some "soso" lenses, and still a lot of gear.....

THEY DIDN"T WORK YESTERDAY, MONDAY, because of the "Holiday"!!!!!

Folks: Remember that the people that work at Canon are people. They are people like you and I. They work 8 hours a day and work very hard at what they do. And yes, the Canon employees actually are allowed (by law and employee contract) to observe certain holidays.

And they can take PTO (Personal Time Off) too! What a concept.

all due respect... and no offense taken... but i was told by a Canon rep three weeks ago that the repairs are done fairly quickly and in the lab for about 3 days and that the working turnaround was approximately 5 to 7 days. They say 10 to give themselves a cushion - but most are fixed in 3 to 5.

That has nothing to do with sitting on the receiving shelf for now 6 days without being even logged in to the system - phony holidays and excuses or not!

Maybe they need re-training...

Like every other aspect of this whole story, we are left to speculate on what's really happening. Nobody knows. Even people at Canon don't really seem to have a handle on the entire process; those who do don't seem to be talking, at least in the US where most of this activity seems to be taking place.

Some bodies go to Virginia, while others get redirected to New Jersey. Apparently some have even been repaired on the west coast. Some are done in one day, while others are there for a couple weeks. Some got their shipping lables as soon as the process began, and some are still waiting. Some have received email status updates, most have not. Most people had their bodies back while the online status was saying they were finished buy not yet shipped. The whole situation has been very confused, and doesn't seem to be getting much better.

What we are able to say with certainty now is that the vast majority of cameras that have been through the process are now working properly, and it is reasonable to conclude the 'fix' was the correct one. The small number of people who continue to have autofocus problems or other other issues, have reasonable expectations that the answers are available, and their camera will eventually be fixed. It wasn't that many months ago we were speculating on whether the 1D Mk III would ever work as promised. We are at least past that point.

I'm not short. I'm concentrated awesome!

Well, I'm in the group of people who are not having a total positive experience with sending my MK3 back. It arrived last Thursday (17th at 0900 hrs) and has not been seen from since. They said they will send my information up to the supervisor level in the warehouse? But I need to give them a couple more days to try to find it? When I asked what happens if they can't find it, they said well...........it should be here somewhere. At least they lost it on their end and not with UPS. I will keep everyone posted, they are going to call me on Friday if they don't find it sooner.:(

most of the recent posts are only 2 days old... gee - things move quick around here!

going to put in another call to Canon today - 1 1/2 weeks after they received my Mark III and still no word about anytihng!

-----------edit-------------

Glory be! - Talked to a rather enthusiastic rep at the repair facility who said they started hammering away on my camera last Monday. Its in the shipping deptarment today and the website says i should get it in 4 business days... but still no fedex tracking number... yet.

So thats from Monday 14th to possibly Thursday 24th its been out of my hands. * 8 work days in their facility * Maybe i'm a bit impatient - especially when i see others send their cameras in on Monday and get them back the next Friday. Just so it works correctly when I get it back - thats all I care!

Funny how suffering through using my old 20D would have never been noticed had I not bought the Mark III!

It's actually "still stuck" by POTN standards,. it's in the MkIII official link collection, which is stuck.

The thread is titled the fix is in... By now most people have had the call, are on the list, or even had it fixed... I don't think there is anyone on POTN that doesn't know the fix is in...

Well I think Canon UK have pretty much got their act together in this whole debacle if my experience is anything to go by...

I got an email 14th January to say I could send it in, prepaid labels arrived on the 16th, UPS collected on the 17th. I then got a letter from Canon to confirm that they had received it on the 19th and tracking details to use on the website. Finally two SMS messages to my mobile on the 24th to say it had been fixed and then despatched, again with tracking details (this time for the carrier). UPS delivered it today (25th January) together with a letter extending the warranty for a year from the repair date and including a complimentary 2GB Sandisk Ultra II CF card. (the cheapskates could have made it an Extreme III or IV) ;)

And it seems to be fine, although I'll use it as much as possible this weekend just to confirm it.

OK... it shouldn't have happened in the first place and Canon should have accepted that there was indeed a problem rather more quickly than they did. But to be fair, at least as far as the UK division of Canon goes, they do seem to be trying to keep you notified at all stages of the process, and I wasn't left wondering just what was happening with my camera. It may well be a PR job / damage limitation, but at least they're trying.
