So there's always a thread within a page or two of the first asking, "Is an
L Worth It?" or similar. I thought a humorous, anti-L thread would be fun.
So without further ado, I present, "Why Not An L?"

1) Metal. They're cold in the winter and your tongue will stick to them.
You'll even have to get them LensCoats to keep them warm.

2) White. I mean, really. You have a black camera - why would you want a
white lens? It totally clashes. Not to mention, people will point and
stare at you.

3) Heavy. Why get a big, heavy lens when space-age plastics can give you
the same focal length at half the weight? Even glass is made out of plastic
these days. Surely these lenses hail from the 70's or something.

4) Expensive. Who wants one lens at $2k when they can get two for the same
price? Duh!

5) Lots of glass. This is the 21st century! We should be thinking "green"
and recycling glass, not putting it all into these monstrous lenses.

I get my lenses using instant rebates, B&H Promo codes, S&H Green stamps, American Express points, and Black Friday specials! When I buy a lens..Canon pays ME!

After I am done with my lenses, I melt down the glass and take the molten silicon and make implants for some of my favorite Miami beach babes! Now THAT is recycling!

Wow, I never thought Id read a thread about why NOT to get an L lens, especially from one who owns more than most. Personally Im not convinced, but you do bring up some valid points and I appreciate the angle, effort, and new idea.

L lenses are overpriced, over-hyped and generally suck (suck all the money out of your wallet!). The worst lenses ever.

L lenses are weather resistant...so what, most of the bodies that people use them on are NOT 'sealed'?! So you have a working $1000 lens and a non-functional $2500 body, so what?

The lens body is light colored to prevent sun-induced heat build up. So what? When you use them indoors to shoot telephoto closeups of your neighbors thru their open window shades, you are protected from the sun and wanting to HIDE from your neighbors, not be more conspicuous in your voyeurism!

The lens body is metal rather than plastic. So what? You are thinking of driving your car over the lens so that you can crawl under to change the oil yourself?

It has a red ring (status symbol). So what? I can go buy red pinstriping tape at the auto supply store and make my non-L look just as socially snobby as your real L lens!

L lenses hold their value better??? So what...20% depreciation on a $1500 lens is still a whole lot more money than 40% depreciation on a $400 lens! ($300 vs. $160 depreciation, for those who flunked grade school arithmetic)

L lenses can destroy marriages, whereas other non-L lenses merely are temporarily damaging to the relationship, since you can buy more dresses or shoes or purses with L lens money than you can with non-L lens money.

Humorous? I will never own an L lens. EVER. Waste of money. I'd rather shoot with a Polaroid.
