If the 5D MkII isn't coming in January, I possibly will switch to D300...

By Sept? That's wehn the new 5D wil be out;)

No competition??? That is total rubbish and Canon know it.

The 5D update better come soon and it better be good or I suspect a lot of people, including me, will be switching to the Nikon D3.

By Sept, when the New 5D will be out;)?

I doubt that Vic Soloman said any such thing. There is competition for the 5D - it just isn't full frame. And I believe that there will be more full framers, from Nikon and Sony within the next year.

withoin the next year.... means that Canon cxan wait until ASept before upgrading the 5D

Just like I said:p

What's this remark about September (INSIDE INFO?)? To my information the D300 and D3 is in the stores already, meaning Canon can't wait until September 2008! They have to upgrade the 5D soon, before the whole Canon camp moves over to Nikon...

Aloha guys,

A guy I'm in contact with has access to a specialized "Canon Inc - forum", which only some people have access to, and everything that's going to be announced is announced there first.

The new 5D, whatever it'll be called, is due at PMA. Yes, it WILL come then.

We'll see how it'll be, but for sure it's due in 1.5 months. :D

So if canon doesn't update by PMA everyone's going to ditch thousands of pounds worth of equipment and go Noink??? yeah right:lol:

Because the average person earns more money. Plus the fact that the competition is higher in the bigger US markets. It sucks, but the good thing is you can always have a friend in the US buy it for you and then ship it. Or you could take a cheap flight to the great NYC and make it a nice long weekend vacation!

I hope Aero is right.

Re: Europeans coming to NYC to shop...its unreal how much that is happening lately. You guys should see the inside of the B&H store these days.

I'm testing a D300 at the moment, and for image quality the 5D still has it beat. Especially when shooting people.

Yeah right? You think these forums lie or what?
It will always seem that when someone makes a posts like this is just making a joke, but I believe in this forum and it'll come in PMA.

If it does come then, you better take this back. ;)

Budget?

You in the US pay around $5000,- for the D3, we here in Europe pay around 4500 Euro (lowest price) for the D3, which is more than $6500,- with the current conversion rates. That comes close to the US price for a 1DsIII!

BTW: I never understood why we here in Europe have to pay around 40% more than US photographers for the same equipment (it's unfair!).

I heard that EU has the highest quality standards, and may confiscate shipments if a vendor ships crap. So the Asian vendors ship the items within the tightest tolerance coming off the production line to EU, second rate stuff for US and Japan, and charge accordingly. So this is actually a blessing!

That's actually not true. Any person who understands manufacturing and international distribution will tell you, that 1) all products are made to spec (i.e. shipped) or it's out-of-spec (i.e. not shipped), and 2) you don't have different quality standards based on destination. (unless it's an environmental, compliance matter - e.g. heavy-metal containing parts, etc. - but that's a completely different matter)

Bottom line - you get same exact Canon products, whether in US or EU or JP. As to why it's more expensive over there; has to do with the supply and demand and the market's willingness to pay higher price. That's all.

I am not a marketing person, so I don't understand this reasoning 'has to do with supply and demand' : a) I can't undstand why it should be an issue of supply? Is it more difficult ore more expensive to get camera stuff into Europe compared to the US? b) demand: the demand from the US market is probably higher, so why not make camera's more expensive over there? That would raise profits!

And about willingness to pay more: we don't want to pay more, but we are forced to here in Europe! :(

I can't really see an economic reason for the manufacturers to charge 40% more, besides wanting to earn more profit. You're lucky in the US... :)
