You earn more as a Dutch middle class guy than a US middle class guy, it's that simple. The US is also in a economic situation where luxury goods such as cameras are not prioritized by the average joe, so manufacturers lower prices to encourage sales. The EU has higher import taxes that the US as well.

That's actually not true. Any person who understands manufacturing and international distribution will tell you, that 1) all products are made to spec (i.e. shipped) or it's out-of-spec (i.e. not shipped), and 2) you don't have different quality standards based on destination. (unless it's an environmental, compliance matter - e.g. heavy-metal containing parts, etc. - but that's a completely different matter)

Bottom line - you get same exact Canon products, whether in US or EU or JP.
.

quite right!;)

Yes, you are probably right, I agree. But I still get the feeling I am being hassled paying about 40% more for the same product than my US colleagues...

We always hear that someone 'has special access'" etc.. to such and such info from Canon... the point is no one does...
sorry;)

Ah, well that's what HE told ME, so don't say that I'm copying the people that are saying "a guy in a shop knows this |blabla| and he told me".

Can you show me a mail from Canon that states that no one does have any 'special info' from Canon sites?

I don't agree.....

The people i know in the US don't earn alot less than i do... they do have to pay ALOT less income taxes than i do.. so in the end they have more in the pocket.

But i have to say....

We have better healthcare because of the taxes.... americans have better prices for equipment and less income taxes but get screwed with alot of other thing like healthcare.
It are 2 different "worlds" with different PRE and CONS..

According to a Canon rep, there will be one. He's trying to get me hard evidence though.

Last fall and it's their inventory type sheet. So they can get the stores ready with what to expect in the spring. Well, he managed to get something with the 40D on it. I don't it had specs, just listed. He's worked for Canon for like 10yrs or more so I don't doubt him. He said it was hard and some luck. But he's trying since he knows it's that time for a new Rebel and 5D.
