OMG OMG OMG!!

You could totally knock me over with a feather right now!
I just got back my large 40 page Theology research paper. Not only did I get a freaking A, but the professor asked if she could update her writing coursepack (that is full of examples from students papers on what to do for each section, along with full papers) with my paper!!!

I didn't know what to say, I am sure my eyes widened to about the size of dinner plates when I heard her say it. WOW.

Anyways, I just had to tell someone.

CHEERS!!

Mooo everyone!

A small question on behalf of my dad... He wants to buy a dSLR and considering the 40D. He's coming from Nikon but would have anyway to buy all new lenses as his lenses are a bit "worn out"... His main shooting is plane spotting. But he wants/needs an IS lens. And the reviews he saw on the 70-300IS aren't very good. A 100-400 isn't a possibility as it is too heavy/big/expensive. But he needs the 300mm reach (I already suggested a 70-200 f4 IS)

Do you see any solution for him? Would the 70-300IS (non DO) be good? Non Canon lens? A bridge?

Have a nice weekend everyone!

I'm open to any suggestion.

Bit of a problem that, telephotos of above 300mm are usually fairly heavy, especially when being lifted up.

Exactly, that's why he doesn't want more than 300mm...

A tripod with a ballhead might be an option? You could raise it pretty far and it'll take most of the weight.

There is no chance he will use something like that. He wants to be able to handhold. That's why I wonder if a bridge wouldn't be the solution :o

hmm... finding a lens with IS that is cheap is somewhat hard... a 300mm f/4 IS prime is somewhat inexpensive and fairly light... But he would be limited to 300mm and 420mm w/TC

I want to see bagpuss get it :)

DDA, why not recommend to him to get the 40D and the Canon EF 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 DO IS USM.

FM reviews gives it a 8/10 which isn't too bad and it's got IS.

I don't know what the weight is like when it comes to this lens.
