Which plates - Kirk, RRS etc?

Hi folks

I am in the process of getting an Acratech GV2 head and I obviously need some plates for it. I will need a plate for the 1D2n and one for the 300f4.

What do people recommend? I like the look of the kirk plates as they are hollow and also the one for the 300 has a notch for the tripod foot to go into. Is this however a disavantage?

I'm not after an L bracket yet, I can't justify spending that amount considering how little I use the camera in portrait orientation.

Kirk and RRS are like Porsche and Ferrari...

Hard to say which is better, and some will prefer one of the other, but in essence they are all absolutely well built and well engineered. (and overpriced!)

I am an RRS fan myself..

Depends also on the QR clamp you are using:

I'll be using the Acratech clamp so I dont think that will matter René

I am very happy with the Wimberley lens plates, but the safety screws don't work on the AS head I have.

I have Wimberley plates on my lenses and RRS plates on my cameras.

I use the Kirk plates and L-bracket with the arca-swiss and wimberly products. Works great.

Anyone know if these arca type plates similar in height (thickness)? Reason I asked is because I plan on leaving it attached.

All the Arca-Swiss style plates are supposed to be compatible with each other and they're meant to be kept attached to the camera or lens.
