Do you have ANY camera now? I mean it would calm you a bit if you did some night shooting or such

I havnt gotten either yet, i'm just trying to decide which one to get.

When i read a reveiw of the 20D the choice seems clear
When i talk to a 1D owner the choice seems clear

When i look at my bank account the choice seems clear
When i look at my income the choice seems clear

TQ. If you go for the 20D will there not be a voice in the back of your head saying “I should have gone for the MkII�

I think the wisest thing is to go for the best you can afford now, and stick with that choice until a vastly improved camera comes along.

I held off with the move to digital until I thought the digital offering was getting near that which I could get from my film camera and slide/neg scanner. I finally bought a D60 and grip and one month later Canon launched the 10D at a greatly reduced price.

Don’t get trapped in the spiral of chasing the new technology.

I ride a sports motorcycle at about 70% of its potential and I have a camera that I use to about the same level, I just need to practice with both until I really need to upgrade. Its hard work but fun.

If only all of our decisions were this complicated

I currently have 300D which i just find too slow, and the lack of AI/servo makes sports photography a love hate kind of gig.

I'm not looking into the 1dMKII as that is way out of the question.

The 1dMKII is everything the 20D is, and everything the 1D is.

I'm looking into a used 1DMKI vs a 20D.


Build quality:
Both are metal, one is weather sealed. I do not own a weather sealed lens however so i'm not sure when that would really come into play.

Both have the command dial (vs the 300D setup). Both are about the same size (about...) with the battery grip on the 20D.

Lenses, crop factor:
EF-S on the 20D will allow me to keep the kit lens from the rebel thus preventing the immediate need to buy a WA lens.

The only thing that annoys me of the 1.6 crop factor is the viewfinder. I hate how small it is. I dont understand why canon cant somehow make it seem full framed and keep the proper dimensions. I guess the image would be distorted.

FPS:
I rarely use 3fps on my rebel, maybe it's just because it is too slow to matter i dont know. But i cant imagine me needing 8fps more then i'd ever need 5fps

Buffer:
Both are sufficient for my needs

Noise:
The 1D does not handle noise as well as newer DSLR's, the 20D seems to make huge strides in this, nor does it have the banding.

I intend on continually shooting night football...noise is an issue i must deal with. My hope is that i can get a camera that can deal with it before i do.

Focus speed, overall camera speed:
The 20D again made huge strides, .2 startup time is more then enough for me. CF write times are fantastic. 9 point auto focus...we'll see how well it works.

There is no doubt in my mind that i'd be happy with the 45 point AF of the 1D. Nor is there doubt in my mind that the 1D out does the 20D in acquisition and maintaining of action subjects. But from the sounds of it, the 20D is better. It is better then a camera in which i dont have. Which makes it MUCH better then what i do have.

8MP vs 4MP:
No, i dont spend hours over MTF charts. No i dont make forty foot billboards, but what i do do is crop. I crop a lot. I am not a good action photographer. I have 2 baseball games 3 basketball games and 1 football games under my belt. I crop a lot.

Image quality:
Yes the 1D takes awesome photos, the IQ is amazing. But you cant tell me the 20D wont be better, it simply will be. The technology in the 1D is 4 years older then what’s in the 20D.

Cost:
Right now the extra $500-$700 is a lot of money for me. I hope to get at least $600 out of my rebel package (with two sigma lenses). By the time the 20D is out i will have more then enough money to buy that camera i wont however have the money to buy a used 1D.

Brings me to my next point, used 1D:
I dont like buying second hand items. I dont want to have to cringe when UPS comes to the door with my ebayed 1D.

There is no clear choice here. I'm gonna play it by ear for now. An ear that is open to all routes, but tends to lean to one side or the other.

That really is some problem, check out some of sGu's posts he has just gone from a 10D to a D1 and he seems to be over the moon, some of his D1 pics are stunning.

Well today i watched some of the MarkII tutorial on the canon website and so i'm leaning more towards the 1D it's 8fps, 45 point AF and 1/500 sync speed.

Just do it!!!!

I made up my mind, i'm looking for a 1D if anyone has one for sale.
