night club photos (NWS)

Personally, I usually shoot at f8 and ISO 400 with my 580ex. It just depends on the look you're going for.

Im thinking about a new lens. Would you guys reckon the 17-40 f/4L would be worth using for nightclubs. I would assume it would give you easier working environments compared to a 24-70 f/2.8

Do you use a diffuser of some sort?

It really depends on the lens, but when I use the 17-85mm, the shutter speed is around 1/80 at F/8.0, ISO400.

When I use the 50 1.4, its still at 1/80 at F/2.0-F4 with the flash

The 24-70 would be an awesome lens actually. If you're not using a flash, and the club isn't extremely dark, then the 2.8 would work wonders. Unfortunately, the clubs I go in are really dark so a flash is almost a MUST. There are times when a lot of the laser lights, flashing lights are on and I can use the 50 1.4 without a flash, but thats no often
