So shooting a new years party is fun ... but, i did miss my friends ... i wish i had them around lastnight, but irregardless, people were handing me drinks and i got ****faced hahaha

The venue was beautiful ... like i said, held in a furniture store ... it was quite a change interms of the darker clubs i usually do, i had to adjust frequently for lighting and bright spot lights ... but all in all it was fun ... photos came out pretty good i think

Nice stuff, but i think i'd be weary being ****faced and photographing. Mostly because I wouldn't want to damage my equipment out of sheer drunkness. But good job especially if you did it while being gone, especially if you got good photos in the process.

AS always great stuff Yap! I like the layout, definately a lot more room. Can't tell it is a furniture store at all.

Great pics guys. Love the colours Yap!
#7 looks so well lit! Is that mainly from flash? It almost looks like nice ambient lighting.

Nahhh, Augusta isn't that bad! It's nothing like Atlanta, Charlotte, or any other major city around here.

Thanks :) Much easier to shoot just him this year than doing the whole event like the past few years!

Hey all

I LOVE this thread. I've read up to page 150 so far...TONS of great information! :) Here's my dilemma, and my questions:

I'm shooting my first night-club type shoot in the middle of this month, and given my gear list, do all you pros here think that the 17-40/4.0 with the 580 EX II on a 30D is adequate? I THOUGHT about renting a 24-70/2.8 for this application, but do you guys think it's necessary? I also have the 70-200/2.8, and i thought about obtaining another body and flash to shoot with this + another 580 EX II. will this be necessary? It feels like it would somewhat long for this application.

Thanks to all for the great thread and the great info!

Well that depends. If you had read through you may have noticed a couple pages of discussion regarding that very question.

It boils down to how wide will you need to go and how much do you need to zoom?

In the average nightclub I doubt you will get much use out of a 70-200, unless you just want to take pictures of people's heads or body parts as I don't think you will have the distance to get a person's whole body in frame much less groups of people.

Some feel the 24-70 isn't wide enough and that again will depend on how much distance you have and what kind of shots you want to do.

I think the general consensus is that you will find more use from the 17-40 in most nightclub situations.

Also I'm not entirely sure you want to be hauling a bunch of extra lenses around.
