the last pictures i put up are at more of an upscale club (21 and over) unlike some of the other clubs that are 18 to party 21 to drink.... but that being said there are alot more people that own businesses that seem to need photographers..i am averaging about 3-4 job offers/business card exchange a night. I am still pretty new at this photography this as a whole. but learning fast. im not getting paid much for the gigs at these clubs..but i have some great shots of the club that would be good for them for promotion. iwas told to contact them to sell them to the club.

what everyones thoughts on this.. and is there anywhere to get a "standard model release" and a "standard use of photo form" ???

might not be the place to ask this...but everyone that is responding to my thread is doing the same line of work...

I've shot in a few night clubs before, but I wasn't using a DSLR.

My tips are try and get as close to the subject, in order to reduce blank space around them. Don't be worried about asking people to move around in order to get the best image. Also, I shot downwards on girls, as it appears to make them look slimer, and you can also get some great full body shots.

i shoot at a bunch of clubs in chicago... i absolutely love the job.

i was completely new to club photography and my first night i walked in with my 350d my 580exII and my 15-30... lol i had no diffuser and needless to say i embarrassed myself lol.... luckily i got a second chance and got a diffuser and did pretty well..... since then i picked up a canon off shoe cord and let me tell u it is probably the best money ive spent in years..... i highly recommend u guys either get a transmitter or pocketwizrds or something for clubs..... ill post some of my images which are nothing compared to a lot of the ones posted in here later....

what lens did you take these pictures with?

More than happy to give advice too if anyone wants, I do more of the DJ side of nightlife photography rather than the socialite side.

My website is www.rukes.com (external link)

Some people I work with regularly as their preferred event photographer:

Tommy Lee, Paul Van Dyk, Christopher Lawrence, Deep Dish, Junkie XL, James Zabiela, Sasha, Nic Fanciulli, Lee Burridge, Danny Howells, Digweed, Paolo Mojo, Sandra Collins, Robbie Rivera, London Elektricity and many more.

Some sample pics (More on my website/portfolio):

You know, the funny thing is, now that I think about it, each shot I posted is with each of my lenses. I didn't even realize that.

I currently have a 5D and changed the 10-22 to a 16-35 II. All the lenses are Canon

First Tommy Lee shot is the 50 f/1.4 on a 5D
Second is the 24-70L on a 30D
Christopher Lawrence is the 10-22 EF-S on a 30D
Bob Sinclar on the 15mm fisheye on a 5D
Paul Van Dyk on a 70-200 IS 2.8 on a 30D

Kelly, Turbo, Dwight, etc...
If you guys are ever in the area and see an event coming up on rukes.com that you want to shoot, let me know. Anything Giant or Insomniac related is fine, special events depends on the event.

I actually grew up on Long Island too, before I moved out to Cali in 2004. Just find some contact info on clubplanet.com or any other club photo site. Just remember to use it mostly for practice. Try to set up your own thing eventually.

It takes a while to get used to everything and practice. I bought my first camera at the end of 2004 when I came out to Cali (a 20D) and I had no idea what any settings meant. I just tested everything out and just figured it out on my own. Only a full year later did I get my first ever pic that I thought was amazing. Then when I dumped my day job and started doing this full time early 2006, I started to get used to the settings even more and started taking good pics regularly.

My best suggestion is to go full manual and be thankful you have a digital camera to check the picture when you take it. Try different combinations of shutter speed/aperture in different places, and don't be afraid to make a friend be your guinea pig for taking practice shots :)

I was hoping you would have a shot with the 16-35 thinking of getting rid of mine. I did a shoot in a club the other night and all shots were dark and it kept focusing on the wrong things. I had a 580EXII flash.

pocketwizard for club photos??? I havent seen it. Pocketwizards is a wireless option for triggering your flash off camera.
