Woot! I'm going down to Miami, FL for the rest of the year. Hope to capture some nice club life while I'm down there doing my commercial internship. Should be awesome. Totally can't wait!

I know I've been talking about coming out for a couple of years but I'm checking my calendar ... strangely in this economy my business has got a few bucks to spend that might fly me out, put me up and send me clubbing with you to learn the trade ... as a write-off of course! Better before or after Christmas?

Good luck.

Some bits of advice from someone who's been doing it way too long in the neighborhood:

- Don't get sucked in by the run and gun sites. The pay is atrocious and they don't know the meaning of copyright. In the "best" of cases, the images are yours and you can do what you will, but they'll farm them out to anyone who asks without further compensation to you. Might not seem like much, but when your stuff starts appearing in all manner of club promotions without your consent, it sucks. The only thing a run and gun site can get you is into the clubs. And that's their hook "Get paid to party", that kind of BS.

- It's a lot of glitz and glam, but that's what the tourism brochures want you to see. Miami's dirty. Trust no one. Especially me.

- The commercial clubs are fine, but there's a lot more that's off the radar that's definitely worth going to/shooting. When my schedule permits, I try to do this as often as I can.

- On the topic of websites and media outlets, nightlife shooters are very prevalent around here. One member of my website said "I counted no less than sixteen photographers at xxx Club's opening...". And this was a 300 person capacity lounge.

- Despite this, it's still fun around here.

To get a feel for what goes down around these parts (obvious self-promotion) - http://talknightlife.com/ (external link). We're a rowdy bunch but you'll get the lowdown on the dirt behind the glam.

Hehe, you're like the twentieth person to ask that question about this guy's work. I don't remember if he himself answered the question, but the reigning opinion is that he used the Topaz plug-in for Photoshop.

It kinda looks like Lucis Art also...old school plug-in. Not sure if people still use that.
