No, it's an EF-S lens.

not everyone needs RAW, i dont feel its hobbling anything to shoot with Jpg. Im supremely confident with jpg files. im not too worried about the file size but more so the time required as well as altering my workflow for these kinds of events. I dont plan on revisiting the nightlife shots. I dont edit them to begin with.

I never say "never" with regards to that. I've seen photos I've taken ten or so years ago that I thought were the bees' knees then, but now, I realize they could use some work. Having a RAW file would simplify that.

Let me ask you this though, how would your workflow be altered with RAW? I'm going to go out on a limb and assume that someone with your experience has quite the computing rig, and thus speed and storage are non-issues.

For me, there's been no real change. I work in Lightroom in the same manner with RAW that I do when I shot JPG exclusively. I would do RAW + JPG if I was shooting something where time is of the essence, like some celebutard red-carpet gig where I had to go to a press tent and upload right away. Otherwise, with RAW, my logic is, why not? You get more in the way of dynamic range, and you get to make decisions later on, even years later if you want.

I know a lot of people see me in the same light as those weirdos who collect old issues of Newsweek "just in case..", but the way I see it, if the camera has the capability to give me an extra stop or two of dynamic range, x amount more flexibility with noise reduction, and so on, I'll use it.

Not that I hate file compression or anything. File compression enables the internet to work without everyone having fiber optics, even though that would be nice. I just work on the premise of using my camera's capabilities to the max, and spitting out whatever resolution/file type is needed for the output.

Some people ask me for nightclub photos and RAW, "Why?" I say "Why not?"

Time's not an issue for me. Our local market, the clubs stay open late, really late, and the hoary old argument that some websites tried to foist on me about site traffic being proportional to how quickly the images get up is a load of you know what. Our crowd is either passed out or still partying at noon the next day. And again, time isn't an issue since my (not that expensive!) hardware can shred RAW files like no one's business. I don't know of any nightlife client anywhere that is severely affected by having their images 15 minutes later than if I shot with JPG only. And if they're that pissy about time, well, I'll be equally as pissy in my invoice with a rush charge.

You shot this with the 5D? How in the world did you sync the sound? Great job!

If you're really interested, PM me, but it isn't club shooting. Would love to drive up the coast and go shooting with sometime ... but I never seem to get free, sigh. I've been trying to get to LV to shoot with Turbo for two years.

No, the image circle is too small (at the wider angles at least). You might have to go for 17-40, or 16-35 if you still want f/2.8.

I've always wanted to get into Nightclub photography, but feel as though i'm very limited due to the equipment I own.... has anyone shot a club with 50D/420ex and 50mm 1.8? or something of the likes? I have a feeling 50mm would be too long given the space provided....

You will likely find the 50mm too long, else you can get great results with a 50D and 420ex
