Well what is the average zoom for you guys? Do you ever go more that 35mm? I was looking to purchase another Prime and I wanted to see which I should go with.

I have the Tamron 17-50mm and I love that lens. I have not touched the 50mm end in a while. I usually keep mine at about 17 to 20mm:D

I made my first $100,000 in photography shooting jpegs. I made the second $100,000 shooting RAW.

Hah, nice. I shot JPG for years. Went RAW exclusively last year, when I upgraded from positively ancient computing hardware to something more recent. When I had the hardware, glass, and so forth, I didn't see a reason to shoot JPG anymore.

Over in RED-land, the basic premise is that you shoot with the maximum quality available to you at the time. Basically, if you can afford a RED, you can afford the storage.

Conversely, if you can deck yourself out with a DSLR and good glass, you can afford to shoot RAW and back yourself up with the hardware to deal with it.

You will likely find the 50mm too long, else you can get great results with a 50D and 420ex

Yea thats why i was confused when someone here earlier on asked if the 55-250mm lens or an equivalent was good for night club photo's

Hey another question, I have the opportunity to buy myself a new lens this weekend. I did some reading and it seemed going with the 50mm 1.8 (which I ordered last week)was good but from the recent replies I might want to get something else for club shooting. I can afford the Nikon 12-24 f/4 or the Tamaron 17-50 2.8 but I was thinking of getting a prime like the 20/24/28/35mm 2.8 as it saves me a couple hundred for now. Finally I can also get a 10.5 fisheye.

What ever I get it will be my main nightclub shooting lens and I think shooting 100% in fisheye will get really boring really quick.

As well I will try and expand my portfolio so I will be shooting models (hopefully) and I going with an Aliens Bees setup. I have about $800 to spend and the lighting setup will cost about $650 for a storbe+Battery+other

The second question is should I go with a better lens or lighting (Currently have an SB-600). It's going to be a 50/50 usage split and I plan on doing both pro bono (to build my website or to build my portfolio) any help would be great. Sorry for the long post.

The 17-50mm should be your next lens. Shooting fish eye at a club *all* the time will get really boring:confused:

Sigma 10-20 F/4-5.6 OR Sigma 18-50 F/2.8?

Might have myself a first gig.
Maybe both lenses and use the other one for the other 1/2 of the night?
I can't decide. Opinions?

Leaning more for the 18-50 F/2.8 all night so the aperture wont change. I like consistency. :D
F/4 on the 10-20 is noticeably soft anyway.

I don't find this true unless i'm wrong? The last photo's I took quite a few of them are f/4 using the 10-20mm f/4-5.6 . What other settings are you using?

This for example..

f/4, ISO400, 1/5sec.

It's not the matter of my settings.
I know wide is very fun, and F/4 is more than enough, however, compare F/4 to F/8. There's a huge difference between the softness of the photo from my own experiences.
Try it, you'll notice stopping down gives more of a usable sharpness.

I say go with the 18-50. I used that lens for nightlife for a good amount of last year until I got my 16-35L. Lens is cheap and it's sharp.

Agreed. the faster constant aperture will serve you more effectively than going all the way out to 10mm.
