I say go with the 18-50. I used that lens for nightlife for a good amount of last year until I got my 16-35L. Lens is cheap and it's sharp.

i wonder why you got that lens... hmmmmm lol and you are a flaker... lol jk. shoot went well without you :)

Agreed. the faster constant aperture will serve you more effectively than going all the way out to 10mm.

I might just think of swapping near the middle of the whole night to get a whole environment shot here and there, then swap back to the 18-50 F/2.8.

Yes? Good idea to compromise? :)

Depends on your shooting style.

I only bring one lens to a club. 16-35 L. If I'm laden with more gear, chances are I'm not at a club, but at a concert or festival.

If I need that epic room shot? Well, I've got two legs and two arms, and I'll back into a corner and climb up on something if needed.

Thanks for the input. Appreciate it!

Hello!

Club photography noob here... I'd like to ask what kind of diffuser most of you use inside a club? And what other accessories do you use? Like do you use a flash bracket or just mount it on the camera body? I currently have the stofen diffuser mounted on my 430EXII and I'm having doubts if it will suffice.

I'm asking this because if everything goes well I might be able to attend a club party hosted by French Tuesdays on Jan 26. They are looking for possible candidates for their official photographer here in Paris, France.

I use a Stofen on my 430Ex and I have an off shoe cord that I use all of the time. I really should get a the wireless transmitter but the cord will do for now. To me, brackets look and feel a little cumbersome and I cannot imagine carrying a bracketed camera in a crowded space. I know some people on here have a bracket on their cameras but I am fine with my setup.

My Xti is also gripped. I have an Opteka grip that came with 2 high capacity batteries so it can go a long way till the time I have to change batteries.

Some people here use the Gary Fong Lightsphere but then again, the cumbersome thing comes to mind. I have used it and again, it's just way to bulky for me. I know that they have a collapsible one now that is supposed to be easier to carry but it's really all up to you and what you feel comfortable with in the clubs. I just like to have as little as possible with me in the clubs:D

I haven't shot club yet, however, i've been reading this thread for a long time.

People have used almost everything. From the lightsphere, to DIY bounce cards to wireless off camera flash with a diffuser.

I personally want to try the lightsphere as it's given me great results in the past, but as vi above poster said, it's big, and pretty much a hassle.

The stofen i would say just eats up power. As it's meant to spread the light and bounce.
Its a club, the walls are black, I don't think black reflects light well, especially high black ceilings.

I would personally in with my huge DIY foam bounce card.
Rubber band it good, and no matter how many bumps, it won't come off.
Bounces soft diffused light just fine.
The stofen might be the second thing I try.

Yea, it was a little weird at first but I got used to it. It's not as complicated as it looks:D
