I'd like to try out some night club shooting... it's peaked my interest for a while!

How do you get started/get into the first club to shoot? And how on earth do so many of these pics come out so well? Between people being very drunk and a flash going off, how are these people's faces not completely ruined? hehe...

Well, depends on the market. I got started through an internship with a local advertorial rag. They covered my costs, I got connections, so it worked out. This was the last century, things worked differently.

Now, in some markets, any idiot with a blog can become a club shooter, so the barrier for entry is low. Even people with "*.blogspot.com" or whatever get credentialed at venues.

So, it's a helluva lot easier today. Just by the virtue of having your own domain, you're already ahead of 90 percent of the people out there.

With that in mind:

- Get a dot com.

- Get some sort of logo/wordmark.

- Hit up everyone you can. Usually most venues have a marketing contact. Barring that, work through the artist who is there that evening, they often will welcome the PR.

- Don't work for free.

As far as people? Most people going out to clubs have egos the size of the entire internet. It's why blogs, Facebook, and Twitter exist. So, if they can show their buddies at work on Monday what they did over the weekend, then they are all for it. Especially when they're on a "big website".

Yeah, yeah, that was my "get off my lawn" side talking.

you have a nikon? I think ITTL is the same as ETTL

Ya well i have both...but i use the Nikon more. Have more lenses/nick nacks..
Im just curious as to the benefits with the FLASH using MANUAL (like i d) and using the TTL setting...

Using manual flash gives a more consistancy of flash exposure.
Club lighting is unpredictable.

So some shots you may have the strobes going off in the club making it bright, and having the flash on manual, you'll get an over exposed picture in a sense.

With TTL, the flash aims to get a proper flash exposure for generally people's faces.

That last one was an accident, my flash didn't pop for whatever reason but the daylight looked fine so I went with it.

So I went to a French Tuesdays event last night and they were holding a trial for would be official photographers for them.

The experience was not that good... I didn't expect it to be so crazy. So I want some opinions if these are usable. I used on camera flash with stofen diffuser. I didn't bounce since the ceiling was completely red and the ambient light was awful and it was only red too! No other bright lights were turned on.

Here's a link to the photos I really want some opinions.

This isn't the final set of photos, still doing edits and stuff.

I've only shot at one club. Thought I'd put them on here to see what you guys think. Keep in mind first and only club I've shot at. I normally shoot models. So it seems my pics have a different twist to them...

Has anyone had any experience with the Tokina 11-16mm or the 12-24mm?

I viewed the set. you really captured the event well...only thing I would of done a bit different is tried to get more of the peoples body...you have lots of "headshots" type pics. Here in ny the promoters really want the pics to showcase the girls body...oh and your lighting is good.

I got a question...
i usually shoot in my flash on MANUAL, on 32+3-+7 depending...
im curious what is the BIG DIFFERENCE between MANUAL
and the ITTL? ttl?

I also shoot on manual 1/4 power...lots of people here shoot in ettl or i just call it automatic....it gives a better exposure according to them...i use manual because i bounce my flash. when i used a stoffen diffuser, i tried the "auto" setting but it just wasnt working out for me.
