Another vote for lumiquest here!

How do you guys cope with focusing without flash?

I have been turning my flash on with the shutter half pressed to focus, then with the shutter still half pressed turning the flash off and then taking the picture

Stuart theres a custom function on your camera called something like "Flash firing" or "Shoot without flash" if you use that you can still use your flash to focus but it wont go off when you take a picture

Let me ask you this..DO any of you guys use a LENS HOOD?...I honestly have never used one (in nightlife, or regular photoshoots) and barley know the main reason purpose of them, other than eliminating lens flares.
I see a lot of "point and shoot" nightlife guys with a big lens hood on there lens...and I always thought to myself...why does he even HAVE that on? lol
personally i love when i get lens flares in my photos...
Im curious if you guys use them, why, and for what extent?

+1 on the protection. Once the booze kicks in, people get crazy wobbly.

definitely use the lens hood... had a couple of people bump into the front of the lens before, nothing happened thanks to the hood...

This is what I did when i came here...i took everyones opinions into consideration and was grateful for them...but didnt take most of them to heart.
WHAT I DID do....was look at others work that was INSPIRING, and awesome...and took THERE opinions whole heartedly. People who are suggesting certain things, techniques, style etc...look at there work first... and if its something you LIKE, something you would want to mirror, or something that inspires you to do better, than by all accounts the logical thing to do is to listen to them.
However...if you listen to people who produce work you yourself dont value as anything good...why listen to them? FOOD FOR THOUGHT, and that goes for me as well =]

And i just happened to buy the lumiquest system. I got the "quick bounce" i was gonna buy the big bounce, but it seemed a bit TO BIG for my flash.
The past 7 albums on my website (www.****com (external link)) have been used with a lumiquest quick bounce. If you wanna check, and take a look at them its just one way to use it.
There's also about 3-4 users on here that use the lumiquest. "dablackswan" team was the one who suggested and turned me on to lumiquest in the first place =]

+ :)

On the same topic, do any of your guys' work make it onto adverts/flyers?

Good stuff on your flyer allways good when its almost all your work, makes you feel good about it as its all to easy to question yourself i find in this business

Ive had quite alot in flyers/adverts/a couple of cds etc....

Allways nice when you see it there, just a shame often theres not alot of extra ££££

Recent ones are the gallerys 15th birthday and a toolroom knights one thats due for release.

NYE flyer was quite a different one to

So this week I found out my hot shoe is broken, with two flashes every shot I take has to be straight on, I cant tilt in any pretty much any direction or it will miss fire.... wonderful lol. Time to start saving for a 5D or 1D!

Got a question: How do you cope with flash distribution? like if you're getting a typical picture of 2 girls or whatever, the flash doesn't seem to cover down below their chests as well. The falloff is annoying. Just rely on PP or any flash techniques?

Thanks
