Hey there,
uhh, my first post.
let me shortly introduce myself:
My name is Nam and I am currently a high school senior in Berlin, Germany. Recently, I began to dive in to the nightlife "biz" and I must say that I love it so far, thanks to the great club scene here.

I got admitted to Boston University and I am now thinking about continuing my hobby/part-time-job in Boston. However, I don't know what the scene there and in the US in general is like.
Here, we have two major websites, that cover nearly all nightlife photography, besides a few house photographers of the high-end night clubs. Can I assume, that this is the same in the US? So far, I haven't found anything major. Also, websites, social networks and night clubs kind of desperately search for photographers, is this the same in the US?

What would you recommend, for a college freshman to get into the scene? I may have two problems:
- I am not yet 21( 18 is our golden age), does this make the search for the "job" harder?
- I will only have F-1 student visa, which strictly only allows me to work on campus. Are these nightlife jobs generally contracted?

Thank you so much for your insights.

Hey Nam, welcome to our little neck of the woods! I don't know much about the Boston scene, but here In Chicago, the nightlife biz is really competitive there are a TON of nightlife photographers/websites out there. As for your two problems, I stated off when I was 18 and I'm only 21 now. So as long as you can get in good with the night club, and you have a decent looking ID you should be fine. Around here a lot of places tend to be more lenient when it comes to photographers. And as for your student visa, defiantly not sure about it, but as long as they pay you under the table and you don't need to fill out taxes I think you should be fine. On a seperate note, I'm trying out some new editing software (Capture 1 by Phase 1), it has some interesting effects in it.

Got offered a gig shooting night clubs here locally, shot last night to see if I like it and it seems like a great way to meet potential new clients. I'll need to go through this thread to pick up some ideas.

Here is one shot I took last night

Hey guys, first of all this thread is incredible! Took me a while to read it, buts its worth it.

I have a question (or 3), I'm looking at getting into club shooting in Edinburgh over the summer (GambitLive you might be able to help out?) and I'm basically wondering about the way you guys conduct yourself with the clubs. Is it quite an informal thing or is it taken seriously? I think I've got something sorted out with one club to become a resident photographer once I get back from Aberdeen where I'm at university. I also have some contacts at another club (the club owner no less) which is about to re-open and I've been thinking about contacting him for some work. Would it be frowned upon to shoot for more than one club? Is that pushing myself for a beginner?

And on a gear note, I'm looking at getting a Yongnuo YN-468 flash for my 400D as I simply cannot afford a canon flash. What do you guys think of it? Heres a link http://cgi.ebay.co.uk …iewItem&item=160428174448 (external link)

Thanks in advance.
