well Im not saying to buy cheap stuff, just that there are some mid-range lenses that are quite good and that L is not an end-all be-all requirement.

I've been shooting night clubs for the past 2 years and would like to know if any one else is suffering from sore shooting arm. It has just started to happen the last couple of months. Elbow and shoulder are getting really stiff towards the end of the night and next day. Any one have any recommendations on how to combat this?

Way too much stuff:p

not so much arm pains, but I get button thumbing numbness syndrome in my right thumb, as my custom functions are set to have my AF on the AF lock button.. I only started getting it with the 5D2.. it was never a problem with my 30D.. any one else have this problem/ a solution (without reverting to standard half press)

I'm in the gym 5 nights a week..
I probably do need to put the camera down more often. I shoot 7 nights a week, and roughly 4-5 days a week studio work.

hard life..

I have the same problem, mainly a sore thumb.

Because I'm skinny I also now have one arm bigger than the other so I look like a a cereal masturbator, great!

I don't think we're suggesting you "need" L glass to accomplish a good photo, as much as no one suggests you need a 1-series body to do good work. Like I said, my logic is that I'm really buying L just for the build. I run my gear hard and I probably would have gone through 3-4 Sigmas now as opposed to buying an L with the proper "armor".

stretching helps. even when you're at the club. on downtime, just loosen your arms out. bend your elbows, over the full range.

Also, if you don't have a hand-strap, I highly suggest looking into one. That helps me immensely when I am not shooting because I can rest the weight of the camera on the top of my hand, with the camera at my side, as opposed to having to actually hold the camera. It also acts as a security device because if someone knocks your camera, its attached to your hand so its not gonna go anywhere. Also great assurance for shooting over a railing or balcony or something of that nature. Really great.

Another option is to get a lighter lens. That's one of the reasons I love using the 50 1.4 so much. On big nights where you want to nail shots with your L or whatever heavy lens you have, bust that out. On the "off" nights, get your light one out. Hope that helps,

I get a sore right arm... But I have an excuse, in the form of a metal shoulder.
