Calling out sharpening gurus:

I've got a load of high ISO images I need to sharpen as good as possible. (As they aren't all pin sharp to start with)

I am (again) using a trial of LR 1.3 but not satisfied with the results I get.

Here's a comparison between LR (left) and DPP (right) (100% screenshots)
There are some other (color) differences, but that's beside the point.

IMAGE: http://www.moonglade.net/rene/POTN/RAW/sharpening.jpg

Settings:

LR:
Noise reduction:
Luminance 2
color 4
Sharpening:
Amount: 80
Radius 0,8
Detail: 60
Masking: 88

DPP:
Sharpening (Raw tab): 3
NR: both medium.

Anyone got an idea how to get better sharpening out of LR? I've tried setting NR to less in LR, but that gives quite ugly 'blotchy' noise. I prefer the DPP version.

Any tips? Or should I just stay with DPP? (I probabely will for print).
I *really* try to like LR, it just doesn't seem to work for me...

I think the LR's noise reduction and sharpening are not good enough for high ISO shots. I export as full res jpgs into Photoshop or Bibble and then apply NR and sharpening. That works pretty well for me and you might be able to batch them. You also might be able to export and use DPP for sharpening if you want. Same as LR, the DPP sharpening on its RAW tab are not likely to be enough -- you'll want to sharpen on it's jpg export tab as well. And you might want to go higher on the NR.

So, the general consensus seems to be: Do not use Lightroom? (either at all, or at least not for sharpening)

I only want to apply a capture sharpening in the Raw converter. Output sharpening is done in PS regardless...

When I get home I will see what I use for my default High ISO sharpening. LR does OK, but I am not very finicky about sharpness (no offense ;)) so I don't usually mess with it much. I haven't compared it to any other method either.

I use LR for capture sharpening, but don't really take a lot of high ISO shots so I can't really comment on that because I don't use its NR. As you mentioned, output sharpening is done in PS.

I do not use Lightroom for sharpening at all. It's a keyword sorter and browser for me.

Without keywords, zoombrowser and ACR 4.3 would suit me fine on singular or up to 10images. Photoshop will always have its place with me.

Sharpen in Photoshop for serious stuff. So back to lightroom...

I'd go hard on the colour noise and push the detail slider in sharpening. Kill off all masking. But with your image it might be totally different from what I do.
