This is probably a futile exercise and this request will no doubt fall on deaf ears, but may I make a heartfelt plea for people to stop using apostrophes for plurals? We constantly see things like 'which lens's should I buy?' or 'Which one of these picture's do you like best?' etc.

Could I please inform those who don't know that the apostrophe is not used for plurals - only for possessives or where a letter is missing (eg don't, wasn't).

I know this won't do much good, but I just had to get it off my chest!

What about LENSE? People like to use that just as much as the misplaced apostrophe.

I agree with you about the spelling, but I still think that misuse of the apostrophe is more widespread.

Hi - misuse of the apostrophe is common - and wrong - on both sides of the Atlantic;)

Roy, I feel your pain.

I do not know where the annoying habit of using gratuitous apostrophes started. It is one of the best and loudest ways to scream, "I'm illiterate!" to a world full of forum readers.

The very idea of using additional effort to add meaningless and incorrect punctuation to a word simply boggles my mind.

As an American, the embarrassing thing is that the literacy level of my fellow US citizens is so much worse than people from various non-English speaking countries. I fear the trend won't be reversed anytime soon.

What drives me insane are posts that are totally devoid of capitalization and punctuation...
