But I always have a couple of these handy in case I need them unexpectedly:

You don't take a photograph. You ask, quietly, to borrow it.

If I expect rain, I have the Kata E-702 rain covers. For emergency use, I too have the Optech Rainshields in my bag. The Katas are much more durable.

Unfortunately, they've been sold out of the rain sleeve for awhile - tried to order some late last week from them, but no go. :(

But while we're on the subject, what about these? Storm Jacket (external link) or Rain Cape (external link)?

www.stormjacket.com (external link) makes a good one. Or just use a plastic bag, works in a pinch

Another vote for the OpTech ones. They are inexpensive, pack easily into your bag as they are not bulky, and work great. I keep one on me at all times though have used them only twice.

i agree with jon on this one....i've used quite a few of the rain covers available, and i think the kata option is definitely your best.

i also have an optech raincover in each of my camera bags, just in case.

After starting a similar thread and all the good answers I decided for the KATA 702. Two things I want to point out:
1) Packing size - large compered to a plastic bag or something wouthout zippers and thick plastic
2) you can't use it on small lenses (in my case, 10-17fish, 12-24uw...)

I am not young enough to know everything. O.W.
