Looking for a recomendation on a good (preferably canon) point and shoot for my father in law. Nice size screen, not to fancy, good quality pics. Under $250 if at all possiable. I saw a A 570 IS for $129, any thoughts?

Also I see people talking about the A series vs the SD, can you help me with some differences?

Thanks,

Kim

The SD are really pocket-sized. The A models can be put in a big pocket. The SDs use a proprietary Li ion battery; A models use AA cells, either alkaline or rechargeable. The A570 and above offer direct control of aperture and shutter speed; A560 and below, or any SD offer full auto or exposure compensation. Go for the A570.

A570 is really good model and you can buy it for about $150 (nice price). But your price range is $250. If I were you, I would buy A720 IS with about $200. Let's see the differences:

Sensor at A570: 7.1 Megapixel
Sensor at A720: 8.0 Megapixel
Optical Zoom at A570: 4x
Optical Zoom at A570: 6x (very nice)
Both LCD are 2.5 inch

Helpfull. Thanks. ITs for my father in law for taking quick snapshots of the grandkids, so it sounds size is not not an issue.
