I received the XT a few years ago and got the urge to upgrade prematurely a few times. Each time I invested in better glass or bought some lighting equipment. Best decision I made as I realized my pictures wouldn't be any different with the 30D. Eventually I purchased the 5D for the FF, but I still use my XT and I'm glad I still have it.

I'm new to this whole thing. I bought a 350d that I actually havent recieved yet. But I've spent a lot of time reading here the past two days and seeing what people say about their different cameras. So here's my question....

What kind of differences in picture quality should I expect from the XT and say a 20d or 30d?

When I look through the pics posted here it seems most people are using either a 20d or 30d. Not many pics posted were taken with an XT. And it seems like the ones that were...were taken by newb's like me so they arent as good. Once I get my skill honed will I be able to even come close to getting those kind of quality pics?? Or is there still going to be quite a difference?

Fear not texasreddirt, you've bought a cracking camera that is more than capable of taking cracking pictures. Forget all the hype and enjoy your purchase. Get snapping, you won't regret it.

I would think the 300D is the little brother to the 350D.

The 300D is a larger camera than the 350D. Of course, the 350D is a better camera...

Now that makes more sense. (I've never seen a 300D)

The 350D/XT is really a nice camera. When the camera starts limiting your photography, that's when you might start think about upgrading. Most of the time you might want to get a few different lenses before that happens ;)

I've used my 350D's for wedding photography. It's a gem for a camera. I've shoot lots of photo's indoors as well as outdoors. It is a bit slow in focus, comparing it with my 30D, but usually weddings aren't as "hectic" as sports for instance. The image quality is brilliant!

Oh, and if you visit my website, click on "Brudpar" and anything before end of april should be shot with my 350D's. Anything after (i.e. more recent) have a mix of both the 30D and the 350D's.

Biggest single difference *for me* was the control wheel. Its not always a big deal but when it was not having it on the 350d made me very sad. YMMV depending on the kindof shooting you do of course, but all else aside I still would have upgraded just for the wheel

Well, that wheel is actually the second thing I'm looking forward to whenever I upgrade from the 350Ds. Shooting almost only in AV and M, it would be nice to have that wheel. The thing I look most forward to is better and more reliable AF.

But, I think the 350D is a great camera to learn photography on, and the image quality is very good!

I promised myself that I would only upgrade when I thought I was good enough to justify it.

Sold my 350D. Big mistake, I miss the little fella. MY 30D has no discernable difference in image quality at all. I have almost all my best shots with a 350D.

The 30D autofocus is what made me upgrade really. Apart from that and ISO3200, the 350D can do it all.

These are all taken on my 350D (have not updated website since I got the 30D)

A truly fantastic shot.
There is not doubt in my mind that composition, getting the right exposure are what makes a great picture.

Some of my favorite pictures are the ones I took with my EOS 650 which is the first EOS they made back in 1987~.

The 300D is older and bigger. That makes it the big brother in my book.

Sweet. And here I am thinking the 30D is so much better. I think you've just talked me into spending a couple more years with the XT and spending the money on lenses instead.

Those are fantastic photos. It's nice to see what's possible. Thanks for sharing those!

I have my XT as my backup these days. I found that I came to love my 40D as I found alot more functionality in the camera, plus the noise handling and AF was alot better IMHO.
