What would you think if I told you that this picture was shot with the lens that had been on the front of that Nikon FE.... With my new 20D. Sacrilege? The Beginning of the end?

Well it's true. I don't have a proper lens adapter yet, so this was shot by holding my 28mm f/3.5 Nikor Lens in front of the 20D. Soon to arrive at my place is an adapter for doing just this. I've been wanting to expand my collection of prime lenses, but I don't have the money for such an endeavor. However thanks to my dad I have access to a 28mm, 50mm 55mm, 100mm x2, and 105mm Nikor prime lenses. An adapter ring for my Canon.... $24USD plus $20 shipping (no choice on the shipping part) is definitely a cheap alternative! Everything will be manual focus obviously, but I can't wait until it arrives!

I use Pentax SMC manual lenses on my 20D. It's very swanky!

Hmmm ... let's see ... Guinness + Altoids = sticking a manual Nikon lens on the front of a Canon digital SLR.

NOTE TO SELF: Stay away from camera gear when doing Guinness and Altoids together.

I think the movie Corpse Bride was shot with Canon bodies and Nikor lenses. They had the lenses as well.

You are correct - the director and producers really wanted to use Nikon cameras, but there was some technical issues that precluded them from doing so. Brilliant movie as well.

I know a lot of people are using their old Leica lenses on Canon bodies as well, and with great results (sharper images than with the equivalent Canon lenses in many instances).

Well the Altoids container was empty from the start.... There was however some Guinness involved! :p

It's funny but it seems like you're losing a lot more focus in the left hand of the frame than the left . . . just look at the Burt's Bees container as opposed to the CD.

Interesting indeed.

Yes but remember that picture was taken simply holding the lens to the camera!

The technical issues that prevented the use of a Nikon digital was that it was at a time when Nikon had nothing remotely capable of the job.
They used EOS 1D MkII's for there 8MP images with very low noise in dark areas. At the time nothing else compared.

Exactly! The lens was not affixed to the camera, just held out in front and moved back and forth until the image was in focus. Took a few attempts, and I obviously didn't hold the lens perfectly perpendicular to the focal plane.

That is interesting. Though you'd think that in a studio setting they'd be able to get the lighting so that it was optimum for shooting. I know that the 1D MkII's blew away the Nikons for clean high ISO images, but were they that much better at 100ISO or 200ISO as well?
