That makes it tough, but I told her about that little Olympus with the 18X optical lens. But, I read on a review where the IQ was really bad. What would you have suggested to her? There are a range of good SLR like compacts out on the market place that has everything built in, ranging from Canon's S3, S5, G9.... Panasonic's FZ18, FZ30, FZ50...... Fuji 6500, 9000 and 9600, would probably recommend one with built in IS, these camera's tend to suffer at the high end. Check out the links, below, some sources of info and reviews for your friend. It's got a lot more reach than the G9, and I think on safari one is going to want as much reach as possible. Image stabilization will be highly desirable, too. Alan Myers

She'll want the reach for wildlife. Too many people see the animal in the viewfinder as being more prominent than it is, so end up with tiny little animals in a sea of grass. With the extra zoom of the S5, she should be able to get past that. Jon
