Does anyone know how to get the case of a 430ex flash open without destroying it? I have gotten the shoe off and then the case screws out. The four corners of the case are free but the side of the case, opposite the battery door, won't come free easily. I really don't want to destroy my flash trying.

What I am trying to do is attach a small 1/8" plug through the case that attaches to the wires on the battery box. This way I could run a small sealed lead acid battery on my waist belt or use batteries. I am sure there is some easy way to get it to release if you know the right trick, or where to push.

When I talked to the idiots at the tech line they told me we don't have that info and the repair people won't tell me since its a safety issuse with it having a capassitor inside. Yea yea yea, tell that to some one who cares. I know about the capassitor. They just want me to buy their 580 flash that has an external battery adapter. Yes that would be the easiest solution but not the cheapest.

Any ideas on this, info, or how to find out would be greatly appreciated, Thanks Mark

I see the 430 had 4 small screw on the bottom and 2 screw on the flash if you straight up the flash you see it ....did you try take all those screw out yet ?

Also when you straight up the flash ...rotate the flash side way 90 degree ....You see another 4 screw(it's locate opposite side with the bootom screw) if you look down on the flash ...

There is total 10 screw on the flash ...that should be open the flash freely .

I see all the screws, seperate the flash into two halves, the head and the main body. I need the body opened. After removing the four on the shoe and the four under the head the four corners of the body are free but the one side opposite the battery door won't let go. I figure there is a trick to it. The question is whats the trick? I figure they make it so not just any one can open it as they don't want the liability of some one getting zapped by the capassitor.
