What!!! I said the first one! I guess I don't conform to your elitist view of "everybody"???

Oh look so you did, & you have to conform to someone's else's idea so much that you are worried about it ?

and Tony, trust me you are different but you could at least hide it :p

My efforts from last night.
Dave better? Mark do they pop?

the first one by 100% over the second
too much foamy water in the second, too grey, not as much impact

i like the 24-105 as a walkaround on my 1.6 crop, rarely have to swap it for the 17-55 (in the daylight) when im sightseeing etc

Happy New Year's everyone... It isn't midnight yet on this side of the world so I'm still counting down.

A happy new year to you too Nathan!

Here's where we spent the day today :) What a fantastic start to 2008. On the back of a launch out the back of Waiheke Island, cold drinks and catching fish...

Nice!!

Just checking....how's 2008 going so far?

We still have about 25 minutes of 2007 left. I'm just wondering if I should be looking forward to the new year or not.

All good... except from a nasty sunburn that you could only get from NZ!

... the lack of competition down here. Maybe they have become to conceited with the lack of it around.

And that's where all things start to go downhill...

I'm the opposite on the photo

The first is a snapshot anyone can do with a point and shoot.

The second one you can clearly see the added technicality of getting mixed exposures of a longer shutter speed and bright skies controlled. I'm a fan of blurry waters too. I know not everyone shares that though :p

um... gee, really? wow, didnt know that... *tosses blonde hair*

my opinion remains unchanged. the first photo is wow, the second one is ok. foamy - woops sorry "long exposure" water notwithstanding

actually i DO like controlled exposures for different effects.

HOWEVER

the long exposure and grad/nd filter combo is a simple enough trick which once learned can be performed ad infinitum on demand, and in this case that trick does not improve the photo beyond the one above it. the composition is weaker

geez anyone would think that im not allowed to prefer the top image
