righto back from an evening with our newbie in chch Sanchos. Very nice chap..

*BLUSH* thanks man... not so bad yaself :D

Anyways lens testing.. both on my 40d. Images resized and usm ran through once on the same setting..

Yeah, I have no freakin idea whats going on with my lens/camera/me. It can't be the lens as we have proved that here, it cant be the camera as other lenses are fine and it cant be me as i am getting ok results with others lenses. Think there must be a combo going on, I will have a play and take it out and about under different conditions, might take it to Orana park this weekend, thats always good for colour/sharpness and focusing testing.

we also saw the most unusual set set..... pics later...

Wasn't that insane, never seen anything like it ... anyway was great meeting you Chris, definately keen to stay in touch and go shooting etc :)

Monday anytime and tuesday anytime untill 10pm are best for me for future reference, although I do have 3 weeks holidays coming up :D

funny thing is the 400d produced the same results too. - i am thinking there must have been something on the contacts. As i cant see it being user error 100 % of the time.

hopefully its an issue that has been resovled. If not further testing. Like lending him my 70 - 200 for a day to see what happens.

Sounds like a great idea kind sir. I will take it out this weekend, hopefully to Orana park and have a play, will let you know how I get on.

just to make it a hat trick... does anyone have a spare Canon Off-Camera Shoe Cord OC-E3
or know where I may be able to pick one up at a good price? More than happy to grab a used one..

(Chris, the next time you are in P&V would you mind getting a price for one? If its under $100 I'll grab it)

Looks like calibration at Canon will be needed... The pics don't look bad when the combo works....

Can you explain more please? Is this calibrating my body to the lens or something? If so what is involved, will they have my gear for 6 weeks and invoice me a few hundy? Havn't heard great things about Canon NZ unfortunately.

you should know it's not the size that counts, it's how it's used that matters.

I don't see where this calibration comment came from. From what Chris said, the tests last night showed that there wasn't a problem, currently, with the setup and that maybe there was a bad contact or the like.

From that I saw that you (Sancho) were going to test it further this weekend.

John (DGCorner), where is the calibration needed?

yes and no. a couple of women that I have talked to have said that up to a point size does matter, but if he can't use it then it's mute point.

I tried to find the post about what the issue is, can someone full me in.

to me it sounds like an issue with the person behind the camera.

Possibly, possibly not.

Sancho bought a lens from someone in Lincoln. He was having picture quality issues with it.

Chris went around to his place and helped him test it - against Chris' 40D and with Chris' 70-200.

The result appears to be that the lens seems OK.

One of Sanchos pictures was originally posted - where he was using th 2x teleconverter on that lens - it certainly didn't help the pic IQ, as we would expect - but Sancho is learning this stuff - so, all in all, it has been a good learning experience for him - and a great mentoring opportunity for Chris.

oh ok, that makes more sense. I would recommend testing the lens with out the 2x adpator and going from there. if it works fine then perhaps there is something wrong with the combo of the 2x and the lens.

but there is always a learning curve, esp when new to photography. making sure that one uses the equipment correctly is a must.
