hmm, i just found one of my pro portraits from a shoot i did a year ago on a facebook profile... i decided to tag the person with my photo credit and then message her to ask her to accept the tag, so ppl can see who took it. the pic already has attracted a comment by a viewer for creativity

im thinking i should have offered e-mail size photos in the deal with my watermark on, rather than just the clean fullsize prints

That reminds me there was a Photoshop question I wanted to ask.

Last night I tried to create an action that inserts my watermark as a smart group layer onto a picture and repositions it to the bottom right corner of an image regardless of if the image orientation is portrait or landscape or if the image size isn't exactly the same.
I found after placing a layer there was no action that moved to bottom Right and worked in an action. I found the allign button & this works great when using a mouse, but is not recorded in an action.

The only thing Idea I have is to rotate the image 180 degrees, place my signature layer upside down at position 1,1 then rotate back 180 degrees.

That looks confusing what I just wrote.. hope you can understand what I am getting at.

Would appreciate any suggestions.

Hey guys, just caught up on the pages. Umm I agree with finding some kind of job that is close to the industry. I know that being in employment makes yah feel so much better. I actually feel a sense of pride going to work.

I feel that there is a bit of luck in jobs. This is the email i sent that got me a job at Telstra Clear.

Hi Nalinee

Thanks i got the message. Looks like ill be looking for another job now :)

Thanks for getting me the job at DBM. Its was fun.

Regards.
Mathew Wong

She basically left a message on my answering machine saying that I dont have the job at DBM anymore because they have put a project on hold. So i sent her that email. Dave. If you want a job that is close or even in your field. Sign up to Madison. They will call you up and arrange an interview. They will talk to you and shake your hand. Next minute they will have a job for you.

Currently im still training (1week). Im finding sales very hard. I am not good with numbers. I find it hard to keep up with the training. But the trainer told me that I am a person that likes to learn it on his own and cant learn off others. He said that I use my hands to talk and thats how he knows. Like I explain things through my hands. lol..

He said he is the exact same. He told me to just take in as much as I can and ill learn on the way. But man I suck at calculating minutes etc. Im going to have to study up on all these different plans. Its scary. But im actually getting an idea of hard work. Not dumb stuff.

Hmm people said i should be doing inbound calls instead of outbound. I wish i could. But ill learn sales. Its bloodie intense though.

So did no-one have any good pointers for me to work on as far as shooting people/portraits go in relation to those few images I uploaded?

Yes.

The first one had too much space in ti left & right of the participants.

The others where fine.

Background is a bit busy in N0 2. You can throw it a bit more out of focus by getting the people further from it and using a wider apertuer, but be careful that you don't open up too much & not get the whole group in focus.

Exposure & lighting looks good.

Call Madison for personal, customised service.

A consultant will contact you to discuss your job search, and stay with you right through the employment process, building confidence and keeping you informed.

We give genuine feedback at every step of the recruitment process. Candidate “fit” is vital to us so we promote you for a role only when it is right for you.

Thats exactly what they do. I highly suggest this Dave. Thank me later :) its good talking to one of the agents. And if you work well and they recieve good feedback from your job. They will upscale you to an even better job next time around. My person is called Nalinee. She used to work with my brother, which is also an added bonus. Also the lady Julie who is currently trying to get my foot into the media industry (jobmedia) she also worked with my brother. :) But just make sure you call them up. Tell them truthfully how you feel and you will be fine.

At my interview with Nalinee i just said straight up that im keen to find a job that is close to the media and would be attractive for some kind of career. She got me into marketing (which i find to be bloodie hard). But im trying.

That's useful Matt thanks. To be honest I ended up Googling recruitment agencies here in NZ, and all I got was a string of websites that have listed their vacancies and have essentially proved f**king useless so far.

So I'm hitting the papers, seek, trademe, and abour four other websites day in day out so far. Found two new jobs tonight worth looking for, one I should be vastly over qualified for, the other I'll be aiming high but not outside my reaches.

Cheers, Dave.

Wednesday and Saturday's for the local rags (Dominion Post down there?) are the optimum times to check, too

I recommend madison.

http://www.madison.co.nz/index.mv (external link)

If i was in your position i would just call them up or email. Say that you have come from the U.K. Have a hell of a lot of talent and just want to make it somewhere in NZ. (Say if you want :p, Mathew Wong from Auckland said that Nalinee is awesome!, so i thought ill become one with madison, or something)

The way i see recruitment agencies. They are just spreading your name out there. It is there job to extend your reach into employment. Its there job to find you work. One thing ive learned so far in my journey of taking a step in the media (has not happened yet). But it is to make people like you. Ive found that putting a smiley face in an email always works :)

This is what a senior editor / director of creatives emailed me
Cheers for the quick response Matt. Nothing better than a responsive photographer!
Will be in touch.
Cheers!

bloodie awesome aye. I just told him that its really awesome being in communication with the creative team! I mean its cool to at least have my name ringing around there industry.

I'll give them a call tomorrow. Interestingly enough they show no vacancies in the right area in Wellington currently on their site, but you got to give it a go anway.

Just getting your resume on file at recruiting agencies is a big start.. plant the seed, see which one will grow :)

yip kirst. Make sure you highlight that you want to arrange to see someone and have a chat. One of the biggest advice i got from one of my agency interviews was that once you get a foot in the media industry you can move around and stay in the media. But its all about getting that first step inside the door.

I dont know about trades etc. But for media thats what its about.

apparrently you can write a script which handles the placing of the watermark. i know a guy who said he'd write one for me if i supplied him with the image and location on my hdd... he hangs out on wedding foto forum (external link)

Been looking at them for a few weeks, wanted them done and dusted.

Cheers, Dave.
