some fairly old canon camera stuff, canon lenses, Manfrotto "thingy", and an M5, also an M6 that has had a 720nm filter bolted onto the sensor:

Not connected to the hot shoe but if triggered with pocket wizards or equivalent I can't see why not

Evening all

Good flash, the Nikon one, wish I had seen it earlier, however, I have now completed my flash purchases for the meanwhile. 1 additional Canon flash & 2 Sunpak flashes in addition to my 580.

But the Nikon ones are good for off-shoe stuff.

It'd still fire from hot shoe, just wouldn't TTL.

Mark, whilst shopping for your extra flashes, have you found that the (presumably) millions of really old flashes, some of which are really powerful, to be useless purchases? I seem to remember many older flashes having one power output or at most two, and you then adjusting the exposure in-camera via changing the aperture?

Or have you just picked anything up and plan on controlling your lighting via either aperture or by moving the flashes closer or further away from the subject?

Cheers, Dave.

Though I think if it's a non-digital flash gun it may not be a wise idea firing via the hotshoe from a digital body? Just in case someone's reading this and plans on buying it for on-camera work.

Cheers, Dave.

Hey Chris looks like I can add another day to the lens hire

Well, you do want that 1Ds don't you?

Sorry, I had one of those days were the my mind went one way, and I went the other.
I don't have to be home tomorrow evening, I'll drop it back then, and bring my camera as well :)

So long and thanks for all the flash

The Sunpac ones (383) have auto (thyristor) and a manual option (full, 1/2, 1/4, 1/8 & 1/16). These are reasonably powerfull, a bit slow on the recharge (but I intend on fabricating external battery packs for them).

The Canon one I bought is a 540EZ, which, again is quite powerfull & has a zooming head and the option of the multiple stepping adjustable power.

I have mod'ed the Sunpac with a more appropriate sized & more common 3.5mm socket for the sync and intend on doing the same to the 540EZ (I pick it up tomorrow)

I did look at some older (quite powerfull) ones but as I'm starting out with this off-camera stuff, I thought the easier the better (I'm a bit lazy that way)

Oh yeah, old school high voltage... Better not hardwire that to a digital. :)

Yep, always a good idea to check the voltage before putting any non dedicated flash or other accessory to your camera.

EDIT Oppps, bit slow typing

Actually, there are not the many (I only looked Auckland wize on Trademe). I didn't bother going Ebay route.

Weka, Shrimper - are you still planning to do a SI road trip?

I have a week to fill in between Easter, in Gore (school reunion, no jokes, heard them all) and the start of the Secondary Schools rowing regatta at Lake Ruataniwha (Twizel).
