Ive had my canon 9950i for a year yet never print anything cause they are never good enough in my mind. Feck they will never be good enough but that shouldnt stop me printing and selling them to those that believe they are good enough and willing to pay.

you know I have seen plenty of people selling photos/art work that I would hate to sell myself. Just remember that thy own self image isn't what everyone else sees.

good for aaron's motor vehicle shots)

Do you always speak in the 3rd person, Aaron? :)

I think go for the cheaper 10-20 Sigma, for your wide angle shots, then those couple extra hundred can go towards a 70-200 fund.
the 10-20/22 is, as you said, a great lens for both Wedding and Motor Vehicle work

Our next dilema is which of the following do we buy, purely focussed on weddings:
24-105 (backup to the 17 - 55)

LOL if graham says no but i can sell it myself and he will arrange the rest - than i might have a brand new one for sale... LOL

Well my next step is uncertian. Im looking at selling up my studio and glamour stuff as its not where I want to head (to much a pain in the neck) I have really enjoyed motorsport and would like to follow that up some more.

I still feel there is an "Urban" market but not sure where and how. Peoples buildings at night printed and framed.

Nah, the couple hundred more on the canon guarantees (almost) a good copy of the lens. Mark's 10-20 we're borrowing is a good sigma, but there's too much variation in new sigma lenses and we can't be arsed mucking around with it. Not to mention the Canon is faster, and the 22mm makes it a 35mm equivalent, which is good for shots which you don't want to look distorted.

At least, Aaron thinks so.

if you sell all your studio gear would that help fund a longer prime for motorsports?

re the buildings, have you thought about approaching architects and offering to shoot their work for them? ive done a few architects websites and a lot of their portfolio includes night shots of buildings

There is no money in motorsport (in NZ). Far less than in glamour. If you think dealing with young models is bad, try the hardhead morons who run motorsport events... Motorsport in NZ can only be a hobby, not an earner.

im beginning to think i might have made an error in judgement buying the 24-105L before the 70-200 f/2.8 IS

SS, ask Graham. The worse he can do is say no... Tony's suggestion makes sense too re the lenses you have. Like Nathan says, I think a 17-40 & 70-200 will make a very good combination.

Does anyone else think that it's a joke that our national paper's main story of the day (at least it was on the web site) is devoted to a soap opera plot?

When did our IQs get so low? I can't really see how that's 'news'.

Well, from a relatively long staying migrant -- I would rather see the non sensical stuff rather than death, mayhem, and chaos on the front page... I remember that not a day went by that there was either a knifing, shooting, or rape in the papers...

John and Mark - Congrats are definitely in order for the two of you :D
Top stuff!

Thanks Kirst! Good stuff there too. Next gig you should get paid a bonus or something...

I think people want to have their cake and eat it too.

For lesser mortals such as ourselves we're really having to think long and hard about needs vs wants. ARGH!

70-200L IS is highly recommended. So is the 17-40L. Duncan's 16-35L was really nice but too rich for my pocket.

naqs wrote in post #4506431 (external link)
I know a wedding photographer that only uses a 17-40 F4L and a 70-200 F2.8L IS

Infact alot of his shoots he uses those two lenses with the 300 f2.8L thrown in for motorsports.

Now a question: would it be cheaper to buy a 17-40 F4L in the U.S or singapore?

Nathan, as long as you know your pricing then either Singapore or US will do fine. Just note that in Singapore you will need to work a little harder to get the price you want -- haggle/negotiate like your life depended on it. SIM LIM square may have a number of sellers, Cathay Photo is also a good place to buy.

Indeed, we are harder on ourselves thinking that our work is how everyone else sees it...

yea I agree with Aaron there... if you want to make money from it. You need to be shooting for a magazine, well thats what I found from the 4x4ing scene none of the competitors were really interested in paying for photo's.

Then again it could be different for other motorsports

Tony, fwiw - hang on to your studio stuff a little longer. G&N has always been your passion and I am sure it will return again.

And funny too that you always swore that motorsport was not your cuppa...

Yea I haven't been to singapore before but I've been told that it could be cheaper, however I can't find a price online. I may end up just buying it in the US since that trip is a few months before singapore :p

Yes I do love photographing woman in lingerie, ashame there are not more mature woman out there who are intrested.

As for motor sport I guess its the fact that I dont have to direct anyone. The noise isnt that bad and its outdoors.

I am thinking of selling my Sigma 24-70 f2.8 EX DG to finance a P&S for Tina... or to buy a calibration thingy... From looking at TM it looks like I might get $500...

I am finding that it is either the 17-40 or 70-200IS is on my camera most of the time and no use having the lens taking up space in the storage box....

PM if interested. Otherwise it goes on TM.

EDIT: Looks like I'll be lucky to get $450 :(
