also some of the older b@stards will have died too. :p

Yes there are those that have a foot hold. NZ is small but I guess we get the landscapes which somewhere in another thread people are wishing they are were we are now

FWIW Tony if you do decide to sell up the studio stuff, shout up. ;)

Cheers, Dave.

Surely that depends what lamps you use? As in what power... But then again even if they weren't suitable at the right price I may be tempted for future projects. If all those years in a studio taught me anything it's that you can never have to many lighting choices.

Cheers, Dave.

ohh that would be nice. I would love to have something printed at A3. :) I was sure that the next printer I was going to buy would be A3, then I saw the price and the space it would take up and then said no :(

We recently had a request to sell one of our prints of Auckland city at night printed at 91 x 60cm... waiting for it to arrive as we speak.. I didnt make a hell of a lot on top - perhaps $50, but i cant wait to see it printed that big. One of a few that we have on trademe just lingering - we get the odd bite, but also get our name out there.

I still feel there is an "Urban" market but not sure where and how. Peoples buildings at night printed and framed.

Architecture or even real estate photography... i heard real estate photogs are paid well..

I am quitting my job in April to start the ball rolling on the motorsport photography stuff. A big gamble (and a huge paycut obviously), but I know that if I sit on my butt and expect it to fall into my lap, it won't ever happen.

Aaron, you and Serra are more the 'real' story example. You are out there doing it - with the same fears and reservations we all have - but you are doing it.

I am in the throws of positioning myself within media circles to be able to work to where I need to go - it's a pathway of sorts.

Like I've said before, photography is the ultimate free market, opportunities abound. With a bit of hard work, it can be done. I'm sure of it.

Cliff

Good on you :) too many people talk about it and never do anything about it.
I admit it is a scary thing and wonder at times if we're flying blind.. 2 years ago I would never have thought we would be doing wedding photography - then we saw an opportunity and jumped on it. Rather than just crusing down the river on the boat - I feel we're kayaking down the rapids at the moment.. lol but we're having so much fun doing it.

and i'm even saying that after just walking in the door from another wedding this afternoon :) a wedding so beautiful, the grooms vows had the whole crowd in tears including myself ! :) heh

Eventually I will take the plunge and quit the security of my day job... but that's the biggest step at the moment (and I still enjoy my day job which makes it harder)

What's the sky like out there in Auckland? (no windows here). Western tide looks good for some sunset shots tonight.

Cliff

Tis overcast but looks like its clearing a bit..

A bunch of Canon bits and pieces.

Easy to get parts for as well.

Hey GKPE.

Great to hear about new job prospects and idea's for the future. Also read a little bit about equipment. I have decided on what lens i will purchase next year. A EF 35mm F2 the non L version. I have seen samples. I want to use this as a light weight urban walk around lens. So if anyone here has owned or does own one. Please tell me what it is like. I know the build quality will not be as good as L. But i belive it has the same special qualities as the nifty fifty.

Reason why i have decided this. Is because it helps me work on my shots more and i like actively stepping back and forwards / moving around to get a photograph. With Zoom i feel somewhat static.

Thanks. GKPE.

that shouldnt stop me printing and selling them to those that believe they are good enough and willing to pay.

I think more the reality is that a lot of people expect things to come to them, rather than having to work hard for it. So you are absolutely right about cake and eating.

With a bit of hard work, it can be done. I'm sure of it.

What is the quote? A plan without a goal is just a dream.

It's taken me nearly 15 years but I have just achieved my goal.

Matt stay away from it it is a older type lens. Its tinny like the 50F1.8

If you are serious save your pennys and go for the 35F1.4 L.Yes I know it is more expensive but... Also look into the Sigma 30mm
This would be of some help in low light. You need to understand that most lens get sharper stoped down wide open they are soft. Yes there are a couple of exceptions.
I have them :)

Sigma 30mm f1.4 has a (very)good rep, look at one of these.
