I think I did something to the setting/preference.
Now if I covert my files to DNG, the DNG files is twice the RAW files.
RAW = 7.5mb when converted to DNG = 16.4mb

This has been eating away my HDD space.

You have it set to embed the original RAW in the DNG file. You can turn this off if you wish in the lightroom preferences.

thanks.

I did some changes now the DNG files are 47 mb.... what happened?
here is the options I have
none of the options are checked
file extension: DNG
JPEG preview: medium
Image conversion method: convert to linear image
Options: none are checked

When the "Image conversion method is set to convert to linear image" the file size is 47.5MB.
but when "image conversion method is set to preserve Raw Image" the file size is 16.4mb.

Do I have to check the compressed option? If this is checked, is there anything wrong with the file since it's being compressed?

According to the latest issue of Photoshopuser magazine compressing your DNG image has no effect on quality. I dont use DNG so I dont have any personal expierience. The author also recommends not using the convert to linear option or embeding the original raw file if your trying to save space.

You should be preserving the RAW image and compressing if my memory serves me right.
