We've been getting dumped on here in the Pacific N.W., but finally there was a break in the weather... at least less rain & wind. So out I went out to the park up the street from me to shoot a few photos of the Xmas tree the city set-up.

Photos were shot with 1D/EF 17-35 f/2.8L combo at 17mm, mounted on a tripod. ISO=100, mode=Av priority, Aperture was set from f/11 - f/20, shutter speed= 8-10 sec. I love how the lights get that "star effect" from longer exposures.

These are well exposed photos. I would prefer that there would be some people around for drama and scale, but considering the weather it is understandable. Stay dry dude, thanks for sharing.

Nice exposures. I like the balance in #1.

I find the bright lights in #2 distracting and there is really nothing else to play the tree off.

I really like both of them.
I would clone out that little rock/leaf on the paving stone at the front of the first picture. Minor point though.

Well,

Here's another shot, with the same lens at 35mm, but at f/14 with a shutter speed of 8 sec. and it still did the star effect.

not wrong. it's the aperture blades that you are seeing a star effect from. the space in between each blade creates those long tails or whatever you want to call them, so the more you stop down to smaller apertures the more clearer you see the star effects. by, nice shots. I love night shots.

Great shots. Well done.
