I currently have an XT and am happy with it, but I eventually want to upgrade to either the 40d or the replacement for the 5d.

I may have an opportunity to buy a used 5d, 24-70L, and 580 flash all for $1800 (in excellent condition). And I do have the money saved up.

Any thoughts on whether I should pull the trigger on this, or wait for the next generation 5d and spend a lot more money?

Unless you can physically hold that system in your hands, I'd pass on it. The price is too good to be true.

5D, 24-70L, and 580EX flash, all in decent condition for $1800?
Don't go for it - run and grab it!

Yeah, an amazing price.
The pics included box, and the seller told me the body and lens are only about 1 month old and used as backup system.

Here's the only catch...the sale is through moneybooker.com

I've never heard of this before, but after looking at it, looks legit. And there's a 14 day return policy for full refund.

other catch...seems too good to be true.

Kuma, I hate to break it too you, but that is a scam waiting to happen. Knowing the prices of a 5D, 24-70, and 580EX, do you REALLY think someone is going to take that much of a loss on essentially new gear?

Used 5D are going for $1700-1800
Used 24-70 are going for $900-1000
Used 580 flashes are going for $325

That is between $3000-3300 worth of gear for an asking price of $1800.

Common sense should prevail and tell you to stear clear of that deal. The only way I would go through with it is to physically meet up with the person to see the items in person. You are walking into a scam, you just don't realize it yet.

Well, I had a look at moneybookers.com and it is registered in England and carrie s this notice at the bottom of the home page.

"© Moneybookers Ltd. All Rights Reserved. Use of this Web site is subject to our Terms and Conditions.

That gives me more faith in it than if it was in any other country, Australia included. That said, I searched on boith Canon and 5D and nothing came up. It appears to be all businesses but there must be private sellers on ther somewhere.

Kuma12, got any friends in the UK who could look at it for you (if it is physically in the UK?). I've bought most of my cameras 2nd hand and never had problems (touch wood).
