Hi all, I need help choosing a bag (there's no good camera stores within 6 hours of here!)

It'll need to be weather, rain and dust resisitant, have adjustable straps including a waist and sternum strap, and be up to bushwalking. Here's the gear:

30D
350D
24-105 (mounted)
17-40 (mounted)
30/1.4
50/1.8
150/2.8 Macro
100-400
430EX Speedlite
Plus hoods/batteries, etc.

I'd like something with the ability to expand by slip-lock pouches, or expansion loops.

Thanks!

Not an expert but sounds like you would want a backpack. I think a Kata Rucksack 103 would work. You can also attach things to it such as sling cases.

You're not actually planning on hiking with all of that at the same time, are you?

I work out of a big bag that goes in the car and then I transfer what I need to a reasonable size and weight backpack.

I .

I was thinking the same

I often cycle and take my kit with me , the most I have in my bag gear wise is 20d, 17-40L, sigma 70-300DG apo, filters, cf cards, blower & cloth + a tripod

i also take 1x spare tube, mini pump , food ,water, map, compass, phone, wallet, torch

after a while it all starts to feel really heavy, and i`d class myself as fairly fit and have a bit of stamina

no way would i attempt to carry all those extra lenses, body, flash

anyways, to the question, I use a Lowepro minitrekker AW, it has all the features you want but may be a bit small for all that gear, maybe something in the same line but a size or 2 up?

My wife and I both hike and photograph. Her back isn't as strong as mine, and she needs to carry stuff for our 3-year-old. Therefore, what we've taken to doing is loading everything the two of us would need into our minitrekker, which I carry, and she takes a day bag with food, snacks, etc. We then generally get the cameras out as we walk, but put them back away if it starts to rain or snow. Therefore, I usually don't end up carrying it far, but still need the ability to stow it all away.

We had thought of getting two Tamrac Adventure series, and each person cary their own gear, but her back isn't 100% so I really need to carry the heavy stuff.

I'd very much make the argument for simplifying.

For example, if hiking outside (always good light), I'd very much recommend the two bodies, and the 17-40, 24-105 and 100-400. The 17-40 and 24-105 will be on the bodies the most, I guess and you can take turns with the big gun. Other three lens combinations are possible for you depending on what you are going to be shooting and where.

Either way, I'd not take all of that. Then your back shortly will be less than 100% too.

I see everyone's point about the weight, but it's around 10kg all up, and I regularly carry over 20kg on hiking trips.

I'm leaning towards the Nature Trekker AW II

I've used my Lowepro fastpack 200 & 350 for hikes -- the 200 is particularly handy as it is very light but has decent storage, and accomodates the Lowepro sliplock system. Only problem is that it won't hold a body with a longer lens (like your 100-400) attached. All the others would fit attached without any issues.

Take a look at f-stop's range. Good stuff, very comfy and well made.
