hey gang, i just ordered one of these monitors:

BenQ FP241W 24-in. LCD Monitor from Costco website, $579.99,.......... $694.25 total.

anyone have good or bad info on this monitor? i read reviews and it sounds pretty good. 178 viewing angle, all inputs blah blah

thanks, can't wait to hook it up, it's gonna be better than my samsung crt 17" i hope :)

so, follow-up, for anyone who is interested.

i received the monitor, fast delivery, hooked it up and wow! it's BIG. i have yet to set up the brightness and contrast and such. seems kinda bright, but maybe it is correct and my other monitor was dying?

the pictures i view on this monitor are brighter than the old 17" crt. so i need to do a test print to see how the hard copy matches the view on the monitor.

i'm gonna get a dvi card soon to get away from vga.

Have you calibrated it?

no, net yet. i will have to calibrate it using adobe gamma, cuz i have no spyder calibrator. it would be nice if someone close by had a spyder and could calibrate it for me, i'd pay for that instead of buying the unit, i know they aren't cheap.

now, this being a new monitor, it still is recommended to calibrate it? i would assume so.

i'll have to read the manual and find how to operate the contrast, brightness and such.

FWIW, I consider my Spyder to be my second most important tool after L glass.

Unless you're really, really lucky, without a well-calibrated monitor, your final product (print or web) just won't look like what you saw and shot.

According to this site: http://www.flatpanels.dk/panels.php (external link) it is a P-MVA panel.

$80 is cheaper than a bunch of bad prints.

It's the best time to calibrate it.
