table top tripod will be a waste of time - MPE65 is a heavy beast. Flash bracket may not be flexible enough for macro work - you want something bendy. Off shoe cord is good and a must.

Eh, I say dont bother that that stuff, you already have the 40D and the MPE-65, save a bit more and compliment that all with the MT-24EX flash!

Why is it always the MT-24EX flash owners that say that? ;-)a

Once you figure out how to diffuse it ;)

The tripod won't hold the weight of that rig due to the balance -adjusting the ballhead, and getting it to lock where you want it to, will drive you insane...

You're going to need a diffuser for that 580EX unless you're going to roll your own.

Hi all,

Many thanks for the help thus far it is certainly appreciated!

I already have a sturdy Manfrotto 055 Pro withh 322RC head.

I assumed I need a ball head for the flash and the tabletop tripod was only an extra $10 with the 482 ball head so opted for that.

I heard you could remove the head from the tripod?

Kinda complicateed but tit should work? :)

Sorry, was making a comment to the person who started this thread.

I took the training wheels off of my camera a long time ago -say that the next time someone tells you that you have to use a tripod...

P.S. All of my photography is hand held. I can't use a tripod for the subjects and scenes that I shoot.
