Usually on a Crop camera 35 or 50mm is the standard, you already have one of the best portrait lenses though. (50mm 1.4)

That's what I thought. A lot of posts say 50 or the 85L on a crop and between 85 and 135 on FF bodies. Thanks ;)

So your saying the 50mm 1.4 rivals the L glass for portraits? I always thought I would need to step up to get good glass for portraits.

I think what Brooke meant was the 50/1.4 is good enough for it's price if you already have one. If I didn't have the 50 but had a big budget I think I would go for the L but that's not the case.

Many on these forums says that stopped down the 50 1.4 would rival L glass. I have a 50 1.8 and stopped down a little, that thing is razor sharp, I can only imagine how much better the 50 1.4 is. (btw I LOVE my 50 1.8 for portraits, it is just a little long if you are short on space, that is why I also recommended the 35mm.)

I don't have to imagine ;) All I need to do is get out and take more shots with it and find somebody I can practice portraits with

I do love my 1.4, I hardly take if off my camera. It is long on a crop body though, especially in a little house like I have. I guess I'll work on getting the 10-22 instead of "L" glass.

Might also want to consider the 16-35 L if you want a little more length. The only reason I ever considered the 10-22 is for underwater shooting (which isn't going to happen in the near future). Other than that I always thought it was too wide to get much normal use

Then go buy one. Hey, you're right....I love my 17 inch, silver MacBook Pro[SIZE=2]. :D (but you have a 100/2.8 macro that I want)

My dad is a commercial photog, so I have access to his 16-35L, but he is also FF it's crazy looking into his view finder with the 16 mounted.

On a 5D you can see around corners just by panning... pretty amazing :)

Oh, and guys..... I am ready to hit 5k today, so let's get going LOL. I am home from class now. Didnt take nearly as long to get home. The roads are melting nicely now that the sun is out. But this morning really sucked.

My teacher gave us all 5 extra points for coming to class today haha, what a joke.

Cool, must be VERY different than when using a crop body

I've though about getting a 5D but that's still WAY in the future. Too bad the 10-22 is an EF-S otherwise putting that on a 5D would look wild
