I was out and about a few days ago and saw someone with a lens I couldn't make any sense of... It was definitely a white canon lens, but it appeared very small... nearly 1/2 the size of my 70-200 f/2.8 IS. The only lens I could think of that this could be is a 70-200 f/4, though, I've seen side by side pictures of these two lenses and the 70-200 f/4 seems quite a bit larger than the lens in question. Perhaps the guy holding this lens was a bit large, or it was just a trick of light, but I just had to ask... is there a current lens or discontinued canon white lens out there that is about 1/2 the size of the 70-200 f/2.8 IS that I am overlooking?

Thanks for your time...

I saw someone from far with what appears to be 70-200mm f/4 without the hood and I was surprised how small and thin it looked.

I've seen that picture... In fact I just came across it again after posting a few moments ago :). Again, side by side the f/4 looks a little too big. Granted that is probably the lens I saw, but I figured I'd ask in case someone knew something I didn't.

The EF 35-350mm f/3.5-5.6L USM is quite small when set at 35mm especially if the hood is reversed and it only takes a 72mm filter. A picture is here: http://www.photozone.de …anon_35350_3556/index.htm (external link) The EF 28-300 f/3.5-5.6L IS USM is a bit bigger but still pretty compact at the short end: http://www.photozone.de …anon_28300_3556/index.htm (external link)

Pentax has "white" lenses that are smaller than anything Canon makes. They're not even the same color...

FWIW, in person the 70-200 f/4 looks like something you'd find in a sex shop.

Yes it's small and white, but no red ring, I don't think it's an "L" lens.

I think that if you saw it IRL, and close up, you'd find it's either silver r chanpagne, to match the body it originally sold with.

http://g-ec2.images-amazon.com/images/I/518NAK4PRQL.jpg (external link) - this one is not white but silver. It's old ef 28-90 sold as a kit lens with the EOS 300 (film camera). The smalles white lens in Canon line-up is the 70-200 4.0. Minolta made some white lenses in the past too.
