Given my performance in this thread (LINK) (WARNING: More blood and gore pic), it is only karma that I'm here today posting this picture:

I was riding my bike last night when a truck darted out in front of me. My brakes locked up, I went over the front of the bike, and I landed directly on my face. Last night the eye lid was okay, but the brow was grossly swollen. Now the blood has settled into my eyelid. I'm bumping into things because I can't keep that eye open and I have no depth perception; nevermind the skinned knees, elbows, forearms, palms, knuckles, swollen right pinky finger, and a piece of my goatee has been abraded away.

I'm a lucky guy. This could have been worse. Nothing makes me feel more alive than not dying.

Shot taken on a 5D with a 24-70 f/2.8 lens (at 70mm, f/4.0) at ISO 1600, 1/20th second using no flash and a 20mm Kenko extention tube. MUA: Concrete.

Take only pictures, leave only footprints...

Sounds like the black eye is just a minor side effect...sure beats some of the other options.

Thank you all for your kind words. My head is aching just a bit still. At least my vision is clear and I'm not bleeding from anywhere significant.

I think the steak is there so you can laugh at your dogs when they won't stop begging you. It'll keep your mind off of the pain.

Hey, if you're going to take the shot, pay attention to what you're doing. Otherwise, I should just turn in my 5D and get one of those $19 digital key-chain cameras.

My FOUR YEAR-OLD says to me, "Daddy, you need to wear a helmet." I never let her on a bike without her helmet. However, Daddy needs to live by that rule and find out just where he left his helmet. The gloves would be a great idea.

Having had more tumbles from my motorcycle than is decent, courtesy of mr myopia the car driver, I've plenty of experience about which bits hit the deck first. Usually head, hands, wrists, elbows, shoulders, hips, knees and ankles. All the bits with minimum protection! My worst injuries from coming off a bike have always been at minimal speeds, and one at walking pace!

Hence the phrase: "Knocked some sense into me."

Yes. I'll approach cars WHO FRIGGIN SEE ME with all due respect. I also will not carry a bag in my right hand and steer with my left (I'm left handed). The front brake is on the left grip and that is what sent me flying.

Well, okay, so flying sounds graceful. It sent me spilling out like a disjointed drunk.

Got to give credit where credit is due. ;)

Note: My use of the smilie: ;) is an actual representation of my current physical handicap. (Except that the closed eye is on the other side which I usually use to look through my viewfinder)
