i don't think the o.p was "****" about anything, though, he was posting what has happened to him recently and was asking if it's happened to anyone else as well...to somewhat use what your wrote earlier 'the thread was posted, you don't think it's necessary, no need to respond'...end of story...i just fell like your comment was made more towards the o.p. than the thread...but then again, your signature might explain that one

While abusing packages isn't right, and shouldn't be accepted, the box did exactly what it was designed to do...it protected the contents. It just happened to turn to crap in the process of doing its job. Bullet proof vests do the same thing. Bullets don't bounce off of 'em and the vest doesn't stay in perfect condition even after taking a hit. If you still can't see the connection, I can't help you.

It's also not B&H's fault, as was already stated. Take it up with UPS, not B&H.

i'm guessing it's just simple logistics. bh is in new york, you're in california. ship that ups ground and it's in UPS's hands for 5 or 6 days, that's lots of time to get beat up. do 2 day air and I bet the packages will be in better shape. you could also just not shop there anymore and find a seller that is closer to the west coast.

Aside from agreeing with Skip, I think I'll keep my mouth shut this time. :)

My box looked just fine but the 580 II box I have looks very similar to yours. I guess if you were really upset, you should have done what the red tape says on the box.

A member of my family worked for UPS. The stories he told were alarming. They can be very brutal with not only packages, but (at least in his case) employees.

Another UPS worker threw a heavy package which hit him in the forearm. He complained about great pain, but was told to finish his shift and stop complaining. Found out later it was a hairline fracture. The UPS environment can be brutal all the way around, that's why whenever possible, and even if more expensive, I request FedEx. Not that they are any less brutal, but over the years I have had far fewer shipping problems with FedEx than with UPS. /Dan

Ok it's the 4th time I've gotten a smashed box from BH /w UPS shipping. This time it was even opened! The item inside is fine, however the box that it came in and the product box itself was smashed. This happened to my 10-22, 24-70 and 50f1.4

Has anybody else experienced this or it's just me?!

You live in California. UPS in California generally sucks. Trust me, I know those guys. People from California suck overall. I'm from California, so I can say that and get away with it. Go Raiders! Oh yeah... they suck too.

I have worked as a pre-loader at UPS. (This is the last step when we actually throw the packages unsorted onto the truck)

:D

Every place that handles packages across the world is the same. But because UPS is the largest company there are more cases filed (and more horror stories).

I have had packages from FEDex come just as smashed and destroyed as UPS.

I have had packages from USPS come where I thought the contents inside should just be dust.

File a complaint with UPS.

UPS actually has a policy that they will not accept a package into their possession that has already been damaged.

(they do that enough themselves)

Ross

P.S. Oh and Lord you suck too (and the Packers proved the Raiders suck also last sunday)!

:)

I have never had a package look so bad from B&H. I live only a few hundred miles from their warehouse and most everything comes perfectly safe. But traveling a long distance is always tough. I've lost computers that my son has shipped UPS ground. Kids.

Maybe B&H could offer special triple-box packing for an extra $10 for people who feel the Canon box is part of the product rather than something designed to protect the product. The OP apparently wants a nice pretty box too. :)

ups=animal workers! I see this daily at my work, the boxes come in opened, smashed... most time, things are fine, sometimes they are not! So, this would only be a matter to bring up to B&H..to find an alternate shipping co., but more to inform UPS that this is a big problem unfortunatly, UPS does not care what YOU think but only what their customer (B&H thinks.. ) believe me, I know, like i said, i deal with this daily.

B&H's skimpy internal packaging is well documented here in other threads. They could be doing a better job in that area and that does NOT have anything to do with UPS. B&H (or any seller for that matter) should "pack for the worst" and not hope for the best.

Internal product boxes being damaged is not ok with me as a consumer of expensive photographic equipment.
