I have never had a problem with any shipment from B&H. As the OP stated the product was fine.

And why slam B&H for using UPS? When you order you have a choice of what carrier to deliver your goodies.

So, this would only be a matter to bring up to B&H..to find an alternate shipping co.,

B&H offers USPS and FedEx as well.

Internal product boxes being damaged is not ok with me as a consumer of expensive photographic equipment.

But, according to the OP, they weren't.

I received several packages from B&H via FedEx (small to large) and I have never ever had any damaged products.

Sure, the outside boxes were ittle banged up but that’s from shipping.

I love how B&H package my items.

• Outside box (could be thicker but what they use does the job)
• Bubble foam padding on the bottom of the box to support impact
• Air pocket pads on both side of the box and the top of the box to support impact.

Like everyone else said above me….the problem with your boxes being banged up has to do with the shipper.

Have you ever seen (video or in person) from the time the package gets picked up from shipper to shipping destination? It’s not pretty.

Like everyone above me has stated, you shouldn’t worry about how the outside box looks.

Yup...my package from NY -> CT was a little banged up on the outside but inside everything is 100% fine, even the box of the item.

Now the only thing that can do better is to use a *better quality and sturdier* brown box. My packages even from ebay sellers use better quality brown boxes. That's a "perfectionist" option which me myself don't particularly care.

Boxes give up their life to save lenses. Job done. You CAn go tthrough all the hassle of sending them back to B&H and berating UPS. Think UPS will care?

Who absorbs this cost? You and me. B&H and Canon build in a small percentage of price to account for this crap. So does UPS. If we sent stuff back that had a hair on it we'd all be paying double.

Complain, but make sure it doesn't affect you. Pull out the "saved from death" lens and shoot.

people will always try to stop you doing the right thing if it is unconventional
Full frame and some primes.

The problem is that is it routed through New Jersey. They have a hard time staffing that UPS sorting facility due to wages / cost of living. I too had the same problem when I got a lens recently. I sent it back (on B&H's dime) and they sent me a new one no problem. For the extra cost of double boxing it would have been cheaper than going through that whole process with me. In my mind the contents should always be doubled boxed!

I'm not going to accept damaged product boxes as a consumer......go ahead if you would like to. Sellers should pack so that Canon boxes arrive in as pristine of shape as possible - period. However, it seems like B&H and others are counting on the internal Canon box too much.

If I were to walk into my local camera store to purchase a new 40D and the guy went in the back and brought out a damaged box - I would tell him to turn right around and go get a different one - and I think that most of you would as well. Why should I expect anything less when ordering online?

I worked for U.P.S. for ten years untile I hurt my back the wages and bennys
are great 23 bucks a hr to throw boxes around and I do mean throw.
every 4 hrs you box will be resorted so it is handled by 1 unloader 1 sorter
1belt picker and a loader every 4 hrs so thats a min of 4 people every 4 hrs.
then there is the driver and the guy that loads the drivers truck plus they guy that audits the box. they all have to handle 1200 boxes a hr. Oh ya the pick up guy the guy who unloads his truck the guy from b&h that packs it the guy that ships it from b&h. So if your package goes just 4 hrs from NY that is 11 to 15 people that touched your box just hope that one of them is not having a bad day. I almost forgot the 10 slides and 15 belts and auto arms other boxes crashing into it and so on..

Dont ever put fragile on a box. At U.P.S. that is French for throw me...

For all of those that don't think this is a big deal wait til a year or two later and that electronic part complete its break and warranty is gone. I drive a truck and i know that items shipped do get banged up. But you think UPS or any other company really cares as long as there are no complaints and you keep using/paying them. You don't pay them to beat up packages you pay them to ship them. Even though the item was not damaged (from what you can tell) you still have the right to file a official complaint. but if no one ever complain they will keep throwing that $2000 lens 28, 48 or 53 feet from the rear to the front of that trailer. Just imagine how many times they handle that package and do you mind your equipment bounced around like a basketball.
