The camera is 40D. Which one is better to compliment the 10-22, the 17-55IS (and get an overlap) or the 24-70L (and get a little gap but a better reach then the 17-55 on crop body)?

Depends on what you shooot, of course. If wide really is your thing, I'd get the 17-55 IS next. Save some money? Sigma 24-60/2.8 is going for about $225. at Amazon.com. Tamron 28-75/2.8 is a real value for the price.

The wide side is covered with the 10-22. I'll never get rid of it. I just need something for whenever I want to get a little closer. And I'd like to stick all CANON products.

i think each lens is used for different purposes, and find that for general purpose and indoor usage i use the 17-55 more than the 24-70.

Yes, it depends on what you shoot. I shoot sports and school events. So far I've found the 24-70 to be a very useful range. I'm so absolutely glad I returned the 17-55 and kept the 24-70.

The downside is that I do find myself switching between the 10-22 and 24-70 when I'm doing general purpose photos. A single 17-55 would allow me to keep one lens on the camera in those instances.

I have a 17-40 and 24-105 with my 5D--a little bit of overlap, but they serve different purposes, so its never really been an issue for me. Honestly I prefer having a bit of overlap in the lens choices. So I think the 10-22 and 17-55 would be a good choice.

It depends on the shooting circumstance!

I take a 10-22mm and 28-75mm on holiday, when there is time to change lenses when a 60-64 degree FOV is not sufficient.

I mount a 17-55mm on the camera to cover a wedding with minimal lens swaps, and only take that off and mount the 10-22 for the (relatively fewer) times that I want wide scene setting photos; the rest of the time the 10-22 is in the bag!

I have a 10-20mm

I've been thinking about the 17-70 for midrange

I voted for the 24-70. Personally I don't like the overlap and want the extra reach

i dont even consider the "overlap" each lens suits different situations. it really just depends on what you are using it for

I said 24-70, but mainly because I use the 10-22 with 24-105 and love it. The 2mm gap is nothing to worry about IMO.

17-55. Too much lens switching for landscapes.
