Having stopped skydiving some 4 years ago due to a serious motorcycle accident (6462 jumps) and starting in the early 1970's when the first square canopies appeared (and nearly killed many of us) my last camera outfit was similar to the one shown.

I think back to the early days when we used a Nikon F2AS with a 250shot film pack and motor drive which required a harness to avoid neck injury on opening and helmet mounted Bolex cameras also harness secured with which we would often find we had shot an entire jump without one frame capturing anything but distant scenery and clouds.

When I stopped jumping we would frequently use a helmet with 3 video cams mounted on it and 20Ds with 17-40 lenses on them.

Thank God for progress.

Hey Cookie99 I have seen some pictures of some of the veteran divers at my DZ with those HUGE old cameras on their heads. Its bad enough when I do 10-12 jumps a day and my neck starts to really hurt with my helmet.......and mine entire setup weighs as much as one camera in those days. Like jumping with a boat anchor tied to your head.

JTVal.......yea my tongue switch cable is normally tucked into the helmet so about 2" are exposed. I'm assuming thats what snag point you are talking about?

How do you like your 15mm lens for tandems? I am thinking of either that or the sigma 10-20mm. I went to a .43 video lens this year and the 18mm kit lens is to narrow.

I love the 15mm....and I am pretty sure I would love the 10mm MUCH more.
So far, I've paid off the camera and the lens through jumping but I am still working off the 70-200. My next lens is gonna be something midrange 24-70.

But the 10 mm would be gr8 for freeflying/rw/and tandems.

I have footage of we took with two videographers doing video on the same tandem. It made for a cool split-screen movie but all the footage is in a pile of 300 tapes from the last season.

However.....Im going down to florida soon to jump a new camera suit and main canopy so I can get a friend to film me as I video a tandem. I will post the video when that happens.

The wind must be trying to pull your head off (drag from the camera) at times?

No wind drag. Not enough to notice anyway. Our heads stay on, though sometimes i'm not sure mine works.

The big thing about wearing all that gear is the opening(of the parachute)
is a fast deceleration. If the parachute isn't packed for a slow opening one could get whiplash. Yep, there are ways to slow the opening sequence of a parachute which makes for a nice smooth opening.

With 10-30pounds of gear on your noggin' its important to have the center of gravity....in the center. My helmet is a little front loaded but nothing that is too demanding on the neck.

I'll look you up in the year 2017. (I promised my wife I wouldn't jump out of an airplane until the kids were finished with school.) I actually have the date in my Outlook Calendar... Friday, June 30, 2017. I can't wait!!
