Hello. Any help at all will be appreciated. Recently having reroofed my home, I noticed roofer taking photos of the interior of my home from the outside through a window. Is this legal? I live in Alaska. Thank you.

I think it depends on what he does with them. He obviously cant sell them or make money off of them.

And because it is private property i know that if you ask him to stop then he must.

As for whether or not he can take them in the first place...i'm thinking not, but i'm not 100% sure.

Did you aproach him by any chance?

Thank you for replying. I have not. I want to make sure I have my rights in order, so to speak, before I do. But, yes, I am going to speak with them.

It's entirely possible that the roofer appreciates fine interior design, and he wanted to take a photo home to show his wife.

On the other hand, it is equally possible that the roofer is connected to a home burglary gang, and he was checking out their next target.

Hell no he doesn't have a right to take pictures of the interior of your home, nor the exterior for that matter of fact. One thing a lot of people on here seem to believe is they have a right to photograph anything they wish. Well that simply isn't true. People have a right for themselves and their property not to be photographed. It is called a right to privacy.

If I were you, I would flat out ask the guy why he was taking pictures of the inside of your home. When he gives you some, "I just love the interior of the house" line, inform him that photographing the inside of your home is invasion of your privacy. Tell him that right now would be a good time to go with him to his office or home and delete the images off his computer and camera disk. Ask him to reformat the disk too.
If he refuses, simply say that we will see what the authorities have to say about this. Then call them, maybe by a strange coincidence they will find that other people who's homes have been broken into recently had a roof put on.

To me this smells to high heaven, confront him by all means.
